Managing the Action Bar Layout

You can customize the way sections and commands are displayed in the action bar. Sections are ordered from left to right by frequency of use or workflow.

Sections can be made up of a primary area (always visible), and a secondary area (visible on demand). The secondary area contains actions intended to be used less frequently than those of the primary area.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:
  • Commands added to the standard area area are not kept from one app to another. For example, if you add a command from Part Design, you do not recover it in Assembly Design.
  • To automatically make the action bar available at the bottom of each new tab you create, select Create tab with extracted action bar in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Profile.
  • For touch interactions, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Advanced: Touch and Multi-Touch: Touch Gestures.

Collapse or Expand the Action Bar

You can minimize the action bar.

  1. Click Unpin on the left side of the action bar.
The action bar is minimized at the bottom of the app.
  2. To restore the action bar to its original state, move your mouse over at the bottom of the window.

Note: Click Pin to make the action bar always visible.

Scroll the Action Bar

When the number of action bar items reaches a certain threshold, you can use action bar arrows to quickly switch between the available commands.

Click the left or right arrow in the scroll bar displayed below the action bar.
The icons area is refreshed accordingly to display commands that were previously hidden.

Display Labels

You can display labels for icons to identify commands. The state you define for labels is kept across apps and sessions.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click the arrow next to Action Bar Customization , and then click Display Icons and Text .

Tip: You can also right-click anywhere in the action bar, and then select Display Icons and Text.

  2. To revert to the previous state, click Display Icons and Text , or right-click anywhere in the action bar, and then select Display Icons Only.

Move Sections

You can change the position of sections in the action bar.

Click the section name, and then drag it to its new position.

Hide or Show Sections

You can manage section visibility through the context menu.

  1. Right-click the section you want to hide, and then click Hide Section.
  2. To display a hidden section, right-click anywhere in the action bar, and then click Show Hidden Section.
  3. In the submenu, click the section you want to display.

Important: About the Show Hidden Section command:
    • It is available only when at least one section is hidden.
    • It is not available in customize mode.

  4. Optional: If all the sections of the action bar are hidden, right-click the top bar or the 3D area, select Display > Hidden Action Bar Section, and then click the name of the section you want to display.

Manage Favorite Sections

You can see your favorite sections at a glance.

Before you begin: The standard area is defined as favorite by default. You cannot define is as nonfavorite.
  1. Move your mouse over a section name, and then press Ctrl + click.
    • The commands available in this section are added to the right of the already displayed commands. A separator is inserted between each section.
    • A visual feedback indicates which section you have defined as favorite.

  2. Repeat the previous step as many times as required.
  3. To remove a section from the group of visible sections, move your mouse over the section name, pressCtrl + right-click.

Visible sections persist for each app across sessions.

Pin or Unpin Sections

You can make one or many sections always visible by pinning them. By default, the standard area area is pinned.

  1. Double-click the label of the section to be pinned, or right-click its name, and then select Pin Section.
A visual feedback indicates that the section is pinned.

  2. Repeat the previous step as many times as required to pin multiple sections.
    Important:
    • You can have pinned and favorite sections at the same time.
    • Pinned sections persist for each app across sessions.
  3. To remove a section from the group of pinned sections, double-click its name, or right-click the action bar, and then select Pin Section.

Extract Sections from the Action Bar

You can extract sections from the action bar. When extracted, the sections behave as immersive panels.

Before you begin: See 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Basics: User Interface: Immersive Panels for more information about how to group or dock immersive panels.
  1. Drag the section from the action bar, then drop it anywhere in the work area.
The section is now an immersive panel that you can move, resize, or dock to another immersive panel, or to a docking area.
  2. Repeat the previous step to extract other sections.
  3. To attach a section to another extracted section, or app panel (if applicable), drag the section's title bar to an edge of the section, or app of your choice.

  4. Optional: To group an extracted section with another section, or with another app panel (if applicable), drag the section's title bar to the title bar of the section, or app panel.

  5. To insert an extracted section in the action bar, drag the section, and then drop it onto the action bar.
The section is in last position by default but you can move it to another position afterward.
  6. To dock an extracted section to the bottom docking area, drag the floating section, and then drop it onto the blue zone identifying the docking area.
    • A square with a folder icon (1) is added to the docking area to let you display the action bar containing nonfloating sections.
    • A square with no icon (2) is added to let you display the docked section. The docked section is active by default.

For each floating section docked to the docking area, a new square with no icon is added.

If you dock a floating section to a section already docked to the bottom docking area, this group of sections is also identified by a folder icon (3).

    (2) Floating section docked to the bottom docking area

    (3) Floating section docked to an already docked section

Tip: Hover over a square to display a tooltip identifying the sections it contains.
  7. Right-click anywhere in the action bar, or in any extracted section, and then select Reset All Section Positions.
This restores all sections to their original position.

Extract the Whole Action Bar

You can display the action bar at the bottom of the active tab. By default, the action bar is displayed at the bottom of the active widget in the active tab. For more information about managing widgets and tabs, see 3DEXPERIENCE Native Apps User's Guide: Native Apps Basics: User Interface: Native Apps Tabs.

Before you begin: This functionality is available only when the current tab is not maximized. This is especially relevant for tabs containing multiple widgets.
  1. Right-click anywhere in the action bar, and then select Extract All Sections at Bottom.
All sections (whether extracted or docked) of the action bar are grouped together in the bottom docking zone.

Important: When you transfer sections to the bottom docking zone, you can no longer extract them from the action bar.
  2. To revert to the initial state, right-click anywhere in the action bar, and then select Restore Action Bars in Widgets.
The action bar is displayed only in the current tab.

Reset the Action Bar

You can restore the section position and content, as well as the default settings for the action bar.

  1. From the Tools section of the action bar, click Action Bar Customization.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the action bar, or in any extracted section, and then select Reset All Customizations.
This removes all layout changes and restores the action bar back to its original configuration.
