Customizing Command Properties

You can assign keyboard shortcuts or icons to commands so that they are easier to use.

Before you begin: This is not relevant for icon boxes because you cannot customize them.
  1. Select Me > Preferences > Customize.
  2. In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab.

Information on the selected command is displayed in the gray frame below the Categories and Commands lists.

    • All Commands lists global commands such as Open, or Save, as well as commands available for the app you are working in. Some commands might not be listed in this category, even though they are available. For example, this is the case for Open Sub-Tree.
    • Current App Commands lists only the commands related to the current active app.
    Tip:
    • Enter your search criteria in the search box, and then click or press Enter. The search is not case-sensitive and special characters are not supported.

This lets you filter the commands list to display only the commands containing your search string.

    • To display the whole commands list again, click .

  3. To display more properties for a command, double-click the command, or select the command, and then click Show Properties....
  4. In the Command Properties area, enter a new name for the command in the Title box.

You can also define an alias in the User Alias box. For example, enter cap in the User Alias box, and then enter c:cap in the power input box to run Capture.

  5. Click Ctrl, Shift, or Alt to include them in the shortcut displayed in the Accelerator box.
    Important:
    • Start the shortcut with a special character such as Ctrl, or Shift. Some text input areas might be unusable if the shortcut contains only one letter.
    • Accelerators are kept across apps belonging to the same workshop, even though the commands they are associated with do not exist in all apps.
    • Left and right keyboard modifiers such as Shift_L, or Alt_R cannot be used as accelerator.
    • You can use single keyboard shortcuts like the spacebar by entering 'space' in the Accelerator box.
  6. Click ... to the right of the Icon option.
The Icons Browser lets you access all the graphic icons installed with the software. By default, they are the only icons displayed in the Icons Browser.
  7. Optional: To make your own icons available in the Icons Browser, proceed as follows:
    1. Create a directory ending with ...\icons\large.
    2. Put your icons in the appropriate directory.
    3. Access the Environment Editor (see Native Apps Installation and Configuration Guide for more information), and valuate the CATGraphicPath variable with the beginning of the path to the directory you created. Do not mention "\large", for example, "e:\users\icons".
    4. Click OK, then access the Icons Browser.
Your customized icons are displayed and you can associate them to commands.
    Important:
    • Only the Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format is correctly supported, which means that icon files must have the ".png" extension.
    • Only 32x32 icons are correctly supported.
  8. Select an icon, and then click Close (if you used the Icons Browser).
The icon is now displayed for the command in the Commands tab.
  9. Optional: To use customized icons that are not displayed in the Icons Browser, click , and then browse your files.
