Linking an Annotation to Composites Design

You can add an "attribute link" to the text of an annotation in 3D Tolerancing & Annotation that is, to associate the text to a Composites Design feature, thus creating an associative link between the text and the feature.

Depending on what you pick, you can create Annotations links to the following Composites Design features and create annotations:

  • Zone Group Feature Name
  • Zone Feature Name
  • Zone Laminate Data:
    • Materials used (Material1 Material2)(*)
    • Ply count data in industry standard shorthand (Material1:#dir1 / #dir2 / #dir3 / #dir4) (*).
  • Ply Group Feature Name
  • Sequence Feature Name
  • Ply Feature Name
  • Ply Orientation
  • Ply Rosette Axis Feature Name
  • Core Sample Feature Name
  • Core Sample Results:
    • Number of entities
    • Thickness
    • Thickness law
    • List of intersected plies/cores (and cut-pieces if selected): (PlyGroupName/SequenceName/PlyName)(*)
    • List of intersected orientation values
    • List of intersected thicknesses
    • List of intersected materials
Note: To match plies/orientations/materials, the four lists have the same size.
Notes:

  • For attributes marked with a (*), the result is added as a single string with some blanks between each 'pseudo line' of information. Resize the annotation to get a nicer look.
  • The Rosette name is not associative. Update the annotation manually:
    • If you modify the name of the rosette, the annotation is not updated.
    • If you change the rosette of a ply (by selecting another), the annotation is not updated.

Before you begin:

You must have access to 3D Tolerancing & Annotation.

  1. Switch to 3D Tolerancing & Annotation.
  2. From the Annotation section of the action bar, click Text with Leader and click the part.

An Annotation Set node is created in the tree.

  3. Right-click anywhere outside the text field and select Insert Attribute Link.
  4. In the tree, select the feature that you want to link to the annotation.
    1. Select the attribute you want to link from the list in the dialog box that appeared, and click OK.
The Text Editor dialog box is updated with the value of the feature selected, and the annotation is previewed in the 3D area.

The annotation is created under Annotation Set.

If you modify the input of the annotation, the annotation is updated automatically.
