Creating the Solid from Iso-thickness Areas

You can create a solid from iso-thickness areas.

Note: Those tasks are available in Composites Design.

  1. From the Solids and Top Surfaces from Plies section of the action bar, click Solid From Iso-Thickness Areas .
  2. Enter a solid name.
  3. Select a group of iso-thickness areas.
  4. Select the Junction lines option and select junction lines.
  5. Alternatively, select Standard contours and select the ramp contours.
  6. If variable cores exist, select the Elevate using variable cores check box and define a transfer mode.
The resulting solid or top surface is elevated, as explained in Taking Variable Cores into Account in Solids or Top Surfaces.
  7. Optional: Select the Invert Draping Direction check box.

This check box applies mainly to plies generated with Main Stacking Sequence.

The computed top surface or solid represents the Outer Mold Line.
  8. Click Apply.
    • The solid is computed and displayed.
    • If any, problematic points or junction lines are identified in the 3D area and in a message.
Tip: Start Iso-thickness Junction Wizard using the input junction lines and the Optimize the input junction lines check box. Then restart Solid From Iso-Thickness Areas with the corrected junction lines.
