Unfolding Entities

You can create an unfolded shape for plies.

The differences with Flattening are the following:

  • No producibility is required before unfolding the entities.
  • You can define the unfolded surface from the dialog box.
  • The 2D to 3D and 3D to 2D geometry transfers are done using Transfer .
  • The transferred geometry is created under the 'in work' object (no longer in a created 'geometry transfer' body).
  • The geometry transfer is associative with origin surface and the origin geometry.
  • The computation of unfolded shape does not take into account the fibers but is a pure geometrical computation.

Note: This task is available in Composites Manufacturing Preparation.

  1. Optional: Create a geometrical set named Unfold to store the Unfolded Surface.
  2. From the Producibility, Flattening and Splicing Section section of the action bar, click Unfold Composites Entity .
  3. Select the entities to unfold (plies, sequences, plies groups or stackings with the same support surface).
  4. Select the surface to unfold the entities, or click to define one.
    1. Click More.
    2. Set the Surface Type to All.

Even if the initial surface is ruled, select the option All. Otherwise the result may not be correct.

    3. Click OK in the Unfold Definition dialog box when done.

If an unfolded surface has already been created for the support surface of the selected entities, this surface is proposed.

    The Unfold.1 surface is created.
  5. Click Apply.
The stacking is unfolded on the surface defined in the previous step.

A node Flatten Body is created under each ply with the Flatten Rosette and the Unfold Contour.
