Creating an Exploded View of Plies

Ply Exploder is a way to go deep in the 3D representation stacking. It generates a representation of the ply, as a shape or a mesh, as it will physically be when manufactured at its thickness, with respect of other plies.

Click Play to watch the video:

  1. From the Review section of the action bar, select Ply Exploder.
  2. Select the stacking and Tessellated Skin.
  3. Enter a Sag of 5mm, a Step of 10 mm (used to tessellate the plies for visualization).
  4. Enter a Scale value to 1 and click Apply.

A Composites part contains layers of thin materials, making it sometimes difficult to visualize the thickness differences areas in this case. Applying a scale makes the result more readable.

  5. Hide the Grid Panel, the Grid and the Virtual Stacking.
  6. Zoom in to check the plies.
