Opening Selected Components of an Assembly

You can open selected components of an assembly from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in CATIA, without loading all the components of the assembly. You can also preview the required components. You can use CATIA Graphic Representation (CGR) to view the geometry details of an object. Partial open operation helps you to open only the selected documents; so the documents that are not selected will not be downloaded. If the documents that are not selected are already present in local workspace directory, then it will not be loaded into session.

This behavior is only for partial open; it will not affect the other commands behavior such as Save, Global Refresh etc (if performed on Partially opened structure). Other commands will consider the unloaded documents as per the scope of the operation.

Before you begin: Search for the required document in the Open dialog box.
  1. In the Open dialog box, click Open.

    The documents that are already loaded in the session with different revisions appear in the Partial Open dialog box as unchecked, and the check box is disabled.

  2. Select the check box corresponding to the required documents and preview them. You can drag the preview frame to resize it.
  3. Click OK.

The selected documents are loaded in the product structure, and are opened in CATIA.

The documents that are loaded in a session are now already checked in the Partial Open dialog box; and the check box is disabled.

Important: If you do not want to download CGR to V5 cache during the Open, or Partial Open operations, you must:
  • Ensure that CATIA V5 is configured with activated V5 cache.
  • Enter a False value for the key DownloadCgrToV5Cache, that is located at <CATIAV5InstallationFolder>\win_b64\resources\msgcatalog\ENOCD5.CATRsc where <CATIAV5InstallationFolder> is the folder where the CATIA V5 version being used is installed.
