Reconciling Documents

You can merge file-based CATIA design modifications performed by external entities into 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Received data can be saved as documents, as exposed assembly structures, or as any type of object supported by both CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. Using reconciliation, you can compare a set of CATIA documents modified by external entities with documents already available in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, and select the action to merge the differences (i.e. overwrite or reject the differences).

Note: While reconciling documents,
  • If the received data has different UUIDs than the data present in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you must set the IEF-CheckUUIDConflict GCO flag to FALSE. This will ensure that the received data can be saved as a new iteration/revision of the existing data.
  • If you reconcile an assembly containing a contextual part, outside its context, the context is not selected for reconciliation. You can only select Re-load from VPDM rule for the contextual part.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Ensure that 3DEXPERIENCE Platform VPM is set as the destination.

Reconcile by Setting Mappings and Rules

You can select the attributes for mapping documents of CATIA in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, and the rules for reconciling them in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.

  1. In CATIA, select 3DEXPERIENCE Platform > Reconcile.
The Reconciliator Window dialog box appears.
  2. In the CATIA View, select the active documents to reconcile.
  3. In the Query tab, select either of the following options in the Query Criteria list.

    • Simple Query: To use the CATIA Type and Name attributes as criteria for searching the documents. If the document is available, its current active revision is listed.
    • Interactive Query: To configure the attributes for searching documents. The CATIA Type, Name and Revision are mandatory attributes.

On selecting Interactive Query, the Interactive Query dialog box appears.

      1. Enter these details for interactive query.

        Field Description
NameName of the document selected in the CATIA View area.
RevisionType the revision number for the document.
StateType the state for the document.
OwnerType the owner of the document.
VaultType the vault associated with the document.
DescriptionType the description of the document.

      2. Click OK.

  4. Click Query.
The documents matching the search criteria are listed in the VPDM Objects area and the icon for the corresponding document is changed to .
  5. In the toolbar, click one of the following rules:

    RuleDescription

Overwrite in VPDM: To create a temporary iteration of document in the VPDM repository with the document in CATIA session. You have to explicitly save the document in the VPDM repository. This rule is available only if the document is mapped.

Re-load from VPDM: To reload the document from the VPDM repository to the CATIA session. This rule is available only if the document is mapped.
Note: When you select this rule, existing document in the CATIA session is overwritten by the document in VPDM repository without saving any modifications.

New Object in VPDM: To add the new document in VDPM repository.

Keep As External: To ignore the document if it is not loaded (for example, if the file is missing).
Note: You can also right-click the mapped document in the CATIA View or List View tab and select the rule.

The rule is applied to selected document.
  6. Optional: Select the Global Set tab to apply the same rule on the documents without rules or force the rule on all documents.
    1. Select either of the following global set:

      • Global Query: To map all the documents and set the Re-load rule on documents with broken links. You can also select the check box to skip already mapped documents.
      • All objects as New: To set the New Object in VPDM rule for the unmapped documents in the selected structure. This rule is not set for mapped documents.
      • All objects as Overwrite/Reload: To set the Overwrite in VPDM or Re-load from VPDM rule respectively for the mapped documents. This rule is not set for unmapped documents.
      • All documents as KeepExternal: To set the Keep as External rule on all unmapped documents with broken links. You can also select the check box to ignore all mapped documents with broken links, and for which the Re-load from VPDM rule is set.
      • Reset all: To reset either the rules, or both rules and mappings.

    2. Click Apply.

Selected documents are reconciled according to the rules selected.

Reconcile Using Magic Reconciliation

You can use the magic reconciliation option to automatically map the documents and apply the default rules to the documents while importing documents to 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. The Ambiguities tab lists the documents with the ambiguity in mapping and rules.

  1. In CATIA, select 3DEXPERIENCE Platform > Reconcile.
The Reconciliator Window dialog box appears.
  2. Optional: Select the active documents in the CATIA View area to reconcile.

Note: You can also reconcile all active documents, ensure that no document is selected in any view in CATIA.

  3. Click .
The documents are automatically mapped and the default rules are applied. If rule ambiguities exist, the documents are listed in the Ambiguities tab. Default rules are:
    • Overwrite in VPDM: For all the mapped documents which are modified in the any CATIA session.
    • Re-load from VPDM: For all the mapped documents which are not modified in the active CATIA session, or for all the mapped documents with broken links.
    • New Object in VPDM: For all the unmapped documents.
    • Keep As External: For all the unmapped documents with broken links.
Note: Rule ambiguities occur if multiple rules are applicable on a document and the document is not synchronized with the document in 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
  4. Optional: If there are any ambiguities, to resolve them:
    1. In the VPDM Objects area of the Query tab, select the document.
    2. In the toolbar, select the required rule.

      OR

If the required rule applied is selected, in the Ambiguities tab, select document, and right-click and select Confirm Choice.

Selected documents are reconciled.
