Generating New Library from Catalog

You can generate a new general library from a catalog in native apps. The corresponding general classes and objects of the library are generated from the chapters and items of the catalog. The generated library has a similar structure as that of the catalog.

Note: Generating a new library from a catalog requires a Classification Manager (CCM) license.

Required access roles:

Baseline: Leader

Before you begin:
  • You must have People & Organization rights for accessing libraries.
  • Ensure that a catalog keyword name does not contain a dot (.) character. Rename the catalog keyword if it contains a dot character.
  • If the same keyword is present in different chapters, that global attribute can be reused for different chapters.
  • Before generating a library structure from a catalog, ensure that the keywords present on the catalog contain the corresponding classification attributes on the server. Since there is some restriction in the Name and the Title of the classification attributes, you must ensure that the catalog keywords respect the classification attributes naming restriction. For more information about creating classification attributes, see Social and Collaborative | IP Reuse Optimization | IP Classification | Working with Attribute Groups. Otherwise, a message appears notifying that some classification attributes are not present. You can accept to generate the entire library structure without the classification attributes. Even subclasses are generated.
  1. Right-click the required catalog and click Generate New Library Structure.
The Generate New Library Structure dialog box appears.
  2. To generate the library structure with classification attributes, click Generate Keyword Mapping XML.

The keyword mapping XML file is generated in the CATTemp directory.

  3. Edit the keyword mapping XML file and add the required classification attributes.
  4. In the Mapping File for Library Generation with Attributes section, browse and select the edited keyword mapping XML file, and click Generate Library.
Library Structure is generated with classification attributes. A report is generated in text format at the end of the migration. In case of error, it shows the details of the keywords that do not contain the corresponding classification attributes. You can find the report in the CATTemp directory.

The corresponding general classes and objects of the library are generated from the chapters and items of the catalog respectively. The created attributes have the following characteristics:

    • One attribute group is created for a class.
    • The name of the created attribute group is the class name plus the date of creation.
    • An administrator must create the global attributes in the collaborative work environment before generating a library.

Whenever you perform the command Generate New Library Structure on a catalog, new objects (library, classes, and attributes) are created. Since the library, classes, or attributes already created for a catalog are not overwritten, you must clean the old data to avoid any performance issues.

A report that contains the success or failure status of all the objects is generated. You can find the reports as reference documents attached to the generated library.

Tip: To generate a library structure without classification attributes, click Generate Library without uploading a keyword mapping XML file. A message appears notifying that no keyword mapping file is present. You can accept to generate the library structure without the classification attributes.
Notes:
  • When you generate a new library from a catalog, the name of the library is generated automatically. The name of the catalog or the chapter is used as the title for the library or the class respectively.
  • You cannot generate a supporting document, thumbnail, and a persistent query from a catalog to a library.
  • After generating a library from a catalog, you have to restart native apps to update the attributes.
  • Only the library taxonomy can be exchanged. For more information on library taxonomy exchange, see Social and Collaborative | IP Reuse Optimization | IP Classification | Working with Libraries | Exporting and Importing a Library Taxonomy.
