Editing Materials

You can modify materials in an experience.

This task shows you how to:

Insert Materials

You can insert materials in an experience.

  1. To insert a material, do one of the following:
    • From the Essentials or Rendering section of the action bar, click Insert Existing Material .
    • In the tree, under Resources, right-click the Materials node and select Insert Existing Material.
  2. To insert multiple materials, select the Multiselection check box.
  3. In the results list, click the materials.

Tip: You can also insert materials by using 3DSearch.
  1. Enter the following search criteria: mat:* or covering material:*.
  2. In the results list, right-click the material and select Insert in Experience.

Apply Materials

You can apply materials to 3D actors or occurrences of a product actor.

  1. Do one of the following:
    • In the tree, select a material and click Apply.
    • In the tree, right-click a material and select Apply material.
    • From the Essentials or Rendering section of the action bar, click Materials Palette and select a material in the list.
    • When you import a material, right-click a material and select Import and apply.
  2. In the 3D area, click an actor to apply the material.

    Tip: Press Ctrl to apply the material several times.

  3. Optional: To view the list of applied materials, click Applied Materials .

Pick Materials

You can pick a material assigned to an object and apply it to other objects in the experience.

  1. From the Essentials or Rendering section of the action bar, click Pick and Apply Materials .
  2. In the 3D area, pick the object to which the material is applied.
  3. Select the object to which you want to apply the material.

Duplicate Materials

You can duplicate materials in an experience.

In the tree, right-click a material and select Duplicate material.
Tip: To change properties of an experience material for a specific actor, duplicate and apply the material to the actor.

Remove Materials

You can remove a material from an experience.

  1. To remove a material resource, right-click a material in the tree and select Delete.
  2. To remove an applied material, right-click a material in the tree and select Delete material application.
    The material is no longer applied to the object. However, the material is still available in the experience.

Undo Material Changes

You can revert the properties of a material to their original values. This command undoes only changes made to the properties of a material. The material remains applied to the object.

Do one of the following:
  • In the tree, right-click a material and select Revert to Asset's properties.
  • In the Properties panel of the material, click the context menu and select Revert to Asset's properties.

Edit Materials Properties

You can edit existing materials properties from the Properties panel.

  1. To display properties of a material, do the following:
    • In the 3D area, right-click an actor and select Edit materials properties.
    • In the tree or the 3D area, select an actor. In the Properties panel, under Rendering, click the material's name.
    The Properties panel opens and displays the properties of the applied material and its reference resource.
  2. In the panel, modify the properties as required.

Manage Assets

You can open the asset in another app.

  1. In the Properties panel, under General and next to the Asset property, click Context menu.
  2. To open the asset in another app, select Open.
