Creating a Power Copy

You can create a feature called power copy that contains elements to be reused later.

Before you begin:
  • Make sure that the Parameters and Relations options are checked (Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > 3D Shape Infrastructure > Display).
  • To access the models used in this topic, import the Bounding_Box_Reference_000.3dxml and the Bounding_Box_Destination_000.3dxml files located in win_b64\startup\Knowledgeware\3D Templates Samples\Sample1.

How are relations handled when embedded into a Power Copy?
  1. From the Compass, click 3D Modeling Apps and select 3D Templates Capture.
  2. From the Manage Templates section, click Power Copy .
  3. Define the power copy as you want to create it:
    1. Enter the power copy name, PCBoundingSphere in our example.
    2. Select the elements making up the power copy from the tree. For the purposes of our scenario, select Construction Sphere below the Destination node.
Important: If a power copy embeds a relation (rules, checks or formulas) that references one of the inputs of the power copy, the selection of a geometrical subelement for this input is not possible at instantiation time.
      Notes:
      • The Definition tab lets you assign a name to the power copy and presents its components in the 3D area viewer. Right-click one of the inputs to add all authorized inputs allowed to be selected as components and select Add all authorized inputs. This command is available either on a geometrical component or on the template reference node itself. The Selected components section automatically displays the allowed features for the given component.
      • The Inputs tab shows the inputs (elements to select at instantiation) of the power copy. You can rename these elements for a clearer definition by selecting them in the viewer and entering a new name in the Name: box. In parentheses you still can read the elements' default name based on its type. You can also reorder the list of inputs of a power copy reference at creation time using the Up and Down arrows. Note that the customized order will be reused at instantiation time.
      • The Parameters tab lets you define which parameter values used in the power copy can be edited at instantiation time. This can be a value, or a formula for example.
      • The Properties tab lets you modify the icon identifying the power copy in the tree.
        • A subset of icons is available from Icon choice. If you click ... the Icon Browser opens, showing all icons loaded in your session.
        • Grab screen lets you capture an image of the screen to be stored with its definition. If you want to display the power copy component, display them and click Grab screen.
        • Click Remove preview if you do not need this image.
  4. Click OK to create the power copy. Save your document.
    The power copy is created.
