About the Installation Process

This section lists the installers available for X-CAD Design Management, Integration Exchange Framework, and Integration Exchange Framework client on different platforms and precautions during installation on UNIX.

Note: Uninstallation is not supported for X-CAD Design Management and Integration Exchange Framework version 2013.

This page discusses:

Installers

This section lists the installers available for X-CAD Design Management, Integration Exchange Framework, and Integration Exchange Framework client on different platforms.

The following installers are available:

InstallerDescription
X-CAD Design Management InstallerInstalls the complete schema and user interface elements required to support collaborative products .

Important: To install, use the X-CAD Design Foundation installer.

Base IEF Installer Basic Integration Exchange Framework (IEF) components for collaborative products that do not require the X-CAD Design Management user interface
Integration Exchange Framework clientIntegration Exchange Framework client is required for all Collaboration Products that use a native user interface.

Notes:
  • To use the EBOM Synchronization feature in X-CAD Design Management, Engineering BOM Management app should be installed before X-CAD Design application is installed. If you install Engineering BOM Management app after installing X-CAD Design Management app, you have to add Create CAD Structure command to the Actions menu.
  • Program and Project App is a prerequisite for viewing Project related actions in the My Workspaces page in X-CAD Design Management.
  • For information about upgrading from prior releases, see the Program Directory and the Knowledge Base.

Refer 3DEXPERIENCE platform - Installation for detailed instructions on installing other apps.

Precautions During Installation on UNIX

This section lists the precautions during installation on UNIX.

Before you start, make sure:

  • Live Collaboration Server is installed
  • You have a working installation of a Application Server (Weblogic, Tomcat, or Websphere)
  • You have read/write permission for the RMI/STAGING directory
  • You have read/write/execute permission on the mxEnv.sh file

On IBM AIX, if you run the installer without assigning Java in the system PATH environment variable, the installer gets launched, but fails while checking for the versions of installed components. If you encounter an error on IBM AIX during the version check of the installer, verify that Java is present in system PATH. Use the command 'which java' to check whether Java is present in system path.

Also for AIX, the mql process may run out of memory during schema installation and crash. In this case, the schema installation log (installIEFSchema.log) shows an out of memory error, but the final installer panel still shows that installation is successful (although the installation has actually failed). To resolve this problem, make these changes to the mql script before running the installer:

  • Set the LDR_CNTRL variable to MAXDATA=0x70000000@USERREGS
  • Define 2 new variables and export them:
MX_MEMORY_KEEP_LIMIT=100m
export MX_MEMORY_KEEP_LIMIT
