Views of Production Plans

A Production Plan Cockpit view is typically the combination of a production plan and a type of chart. It is how you choose to view the data of a specific production plan.

When you open the app, you need to select the production plan to use. You can click All Production Plans to list all the production plans that are available for you, and then double-click the tile of the plan or use the tile menu . Alternatively, provided you have used the plan in the app before, you can open it from the Recent list.

Note: With viewing rights, you can access a production plan only provided a user with authoring rights has published it at least once before.

By default, the app displays the selected plan in a Resource Gantt chart, but you can then use Preferences to choose a different view if applicable. The views available are as follows:

  • Resource Gantt chart: This Gantt chart shows the distribution of operations among execution resources. It gives a good grasp of the workload of the resources in the plan.
  • Work order Gantt chart: This Gantt chart displays the work orders in the plan. For each work order, it shows the sequence of operations over time. This is the go-to view to monitor the execution of work orders.
  • Hierarchical work order Gantt chart: This Gantt chart displays the work orders in the plan. Each work order appears as a single summary bar on the graph, that you can expand to view the operations in the work order. This is the Gantt chart of choice to switch quickly between a global and a detailed view of the work orders.
  • Resource workload chart: This chart shows how the workload of resources varies over time, and highlights the periods when there is either a risk, or a situation, of overload or overcapacity.
  • Work center workload chart: Same as above, but for work centers. You can expand the work center rows in this chart to see also the workload for each resource in a work center.

If you have selected a Gantt chart or a workload chart:

  • In Secondary view type, you can select a second view to display below the main view in the widget. Typically, this is useful for analysis purposes. If you select two charts, they share the same time scale, so scrolling left or right in one chart scrolls the other chart accordingly. Similarly, selecting an operation in one of the charts highlights it in the other. If you do not need to display two views at a time, select None in Secondary view type.
  • In Open / Restore view from, you can select the first date to see when you open the views, and also when you refresh them with F5 or Ctrl + F5. The default value is the Scheduling start date.

Also from Preferences : For all types of views, you can select a Refresh rate. With the default value Manual, you update the data only when you select Refresh from the widget menu . Depending on the production plan and on how you work, using one of the automatic refresh options may be more convenient.

You can change these settings at any time.

You can pin the widget to a dashboard tab, so you do not need to select the type of view and other options again.

You can combine several widgets, and therefore views, into the same dashboard tab, or use several tabs, as best suits you. Typically, if you need to work on several production plans, a good option is to use a separate widget for each. In any case, the flexibility of dashboard and dashboard tab management lets you make the most of the Production Plan Cockpit widget.
