Monitoring Key Performance Indicators

You can display key performance indicators (KPIs) on the selected production plan, to see if performance is in line with the business objectives. The KPIs display as donut charts, with colors that show if the values are satisfactory, or merely average, or below average.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Display a KPI view for the production plan to monitor.

Configure the KPI View for Monitoring

You can select the KPIs you want to analyze, and the monitoring period.

  1. On the left-hand side of the view, click to display the configuration panel.

Note: Once you have configured the KPIs, to save screen real estate, you can click to close the panel.

  2. Select the KPIs to analyze.

    • Service rate: This KPI gives the percentage of work orders that are early or on time, to the total number of work orders that are due in the monitoring period.
    • Resource workload: This KPI gives the percentage of utilization of the execution resources. This is the ratio of time used to available time, for the resources in the monitoring period.
    • WO end date conformance: On all the work orders that end in the monitoring period, this KPI gives the percentage of those whose scheduled end date conforms with their reference end date.

Note: Your selection of KPIs applies only when you do not maximize the view. When maximized, the view shows all KPIs.

  3. Select the monitoring period. You always get to compare two results, typically: past and present, or present and projected.

    • This week / Next week: To view the calculated values of the selected KPIs for the current week and the following week.
    • Last week / This week: To view the calculated values of the selected KPIs for the current week and the previous week.
    • This month / Next month: To view the calculated values of the selected KPIs for the current month and the following month.
    • Last month / This month: To view the calculated values of the selected KPIs for the current month and the previous month.
    • Custom: To view the calculated values of the selected KPIs for the number of time units you choose, before and from the current date. For example, if you select 3 days, the app calculates the KPIs for the 3 days before the current date, and for the current date plus 2 days.

The view displays the selected KPIs for the monitoring period you have specified. Suppose that you have selected Resource workload for This week / Next week. In the view, under Resource workload, there are two donut charts: one with the resource workload for the current week, and one with the resource workload planned for the following week. Both show rounded values. The exact values appear in the tooltips of the charts. The colors in the donut charts reflect how the values compare with expectations. The charts are:

  • Green if the results are above average.
  • Yellow if the results are average.
  • Brown if the results are below average.

For each KPI, you can configure the thresholds that determine how the colors apply, as explained below.

Customize the Color Thresholds of Each KPI

For each KPI, you can specify the values you consider above average, and below average. Any value between those 2 values inclusive is average.

  1. In the KPI view, click the configuration icon of the KPI to customize. This opens the Thresholds dialog box.
  2. In Low / Medium, select the value below which this KPI is not satisfactory. For example, for Service rate, the default value for this field is 50%. If your company considers that anything below 70% is poor service rate, enter 70% in this field.
  3. In Medium / High, select the value above which the KPI is fully satisfactory. For example, for Service rate, the default value for this field is 75%. If your company considers that the service rate is good only when it exceeds 90%, enter 90% in this field.

Note: Between those 2 values inclusive, performance is acceptable, but not fully satisfactory. With the examples above, Service rate values between 70% and 90% inclusive are correct, but not completely up to your company standards.

  4. Click OK to confirm your changes.

The view updates the colors for the selected KPI according to the new thresholds.

When a chart is brown, the KPI value is below the Low / Medium threshold. The current value of the KPI is not satisfactory.

When a chart is yellow, the KPI value is between Low / Medium and Medium / High inclusive. The current value of the KPI is acceptable, but not fully satisfactory.

When a chart is green, the KPI value is above the Medium / High threshold. The current value of the KPI meets the objectives.
