About Design Range

Design Range lets you define the dimensions to assign to product structure elements using several ranges: normal range, small range, and large range. The Machining apps support small range and normal range and let you combine both modes to create assemblies with small scale and normal scale products.

You can select a range to apply to machining objects in the Design Limits tab in Me > Preferences > Common Preferences > Modeling > Design Limits.

This page discusses:

Small Range

Enables to create objects ranging from 0.00001mm to 0.01km.

Normal Range

Enables to create objects ranging from 0.001mm to 1km. This standard design range is selected by default when you create an object.

Notes:
  • Select this range for NC machines.
  • Machining cells are always created in normal range, regardless of the range you select in the Design Limits tab.

Large Range

The Machining apps do not support large range. You cannot:

  • Create a resource (tool, insert, shank, holder, tool assembly, generic machine)
  • Create a program (machining cell, representation)
  • Create a geometry (stock, point, line)
  • Machine a product created in large range.

If the large range mode is selected, the following commands are deactivated:

Load predefined Configuration
Assign Machine from Database
Create Generic Machine
Create New NC Resources
