Managing Customized Tools for Unified Typing

You can create a customer resource (tools, tool assemblies, inserts and holders) of specialized type and use them in machining applications. Resource information specific to your needs can be set as attributes and the same is available for the created resource.

  1. Select a Resource: tools, tool assemblies, inserts and holders (example Mill Tool).
    The Resource Creation panel appears.
  2. Select a tool type (End Mill).
The Types browser appears displaying all the specialized tool types available for the selected tool type (this appears if the specialized type is defined in the server).

A example of two customized tool types for milling tool:

    • Machining type to be specialized: ResourceNCEndMillTool; Specialization type name: YYYCustomerResourceNCEndMillTool
    • Machining type to be specialized: YYYCustomerResourceNCEndMillTool; Specialization type name: YYYCustomerSubResourceNCEndMillTool

  3. Select tool type in the Types browser, and OK in the tool creation window.

The Resource creation window creates a resource of selected type. If you are not interested in creating a tool of specialized type, then select Main Type in the Types browser to create a resource of that type (same as we create resource in resource creation window when no specialized type exists). Resources of specialized type has an additional tab: User Parameters that can be seen on picking More >> in resource definition or resource creation window. This tab, contains all the attributes of specialized resource and you can edit these attributes.

Once the resource is created, specialized resource type can be identified by picking properties to the resource node in PPR tree.

  4. To select another tool assembly from database:
    1. Click Select a Tool from Database .
The Object Selection dialog box appears.
    2. Click Advanced Search in the From Search tab. Depending on your scenario, this search is done by first selecting an Object: Physical Product and a Extension: YYYCustomerResourceNCEndMillTool.
    3. Click OK.

The Tool Assembly Selection dialog box appears listing the tool assemblies that use the selected tool.

Once the resource is created, the specialized resource type can be identified by right-clicking and select Properties on the resource node. Editing a specialized type tool is the same as any internal type (native) tool. The only difference is the edit panel for the specialized tool has an additional tab page User parameters when clicking more >>.

    4. Select the desired tool assembly from the list and click OK.
