Creating a Stock as an Offset on Part

You can create a stock as an offset of the part for a Machining operation, or for a simulation.

Before you begin:
  • The output is not an exact offset of the part: details not seen in the offset direction may be omitted.
  • The bottom of the result is always flat and situated in a plane above the lowest point of the part at a distance equal to the offset value.
  • The result is not associative.
  1. From the Stock Creation panel, select By Offset in the Mode box.
  2. Select the Part body, for example, the part on which the offset is computed.
  3. Select the Direction, for example select a line to take its orientation, or a plane to take its normal.
    The direction is displayed.
  4. Optional: Modify the value of the Offset and Tolerance parameters.
  5. Decide whether you want to limit the stock:
    Original part:

    • With Limited stock not selected:
      • The stock looks like this:

      • Generating too many passes:

    • With Limited stock selected:
      • The stock is limited:

      • Generating only the required passes:

  6. Click Compute Stock to visualize the result, and then click OK to validate and create the offset.

    • An element OffsetPolygon.X is created in the tree.

    • The Number of triangles of the computed stock is displayed for information.
