Creating and Editing Protective Cases

You can create and edit protective cases from the Protective Case Definition panel.

This page discusses:

Main Parameters

Displays the protective case name. This parameter is editable.

List of Parts

Enables you to select one or multiple nested parts to encompass for the creation of protective cases.

The panel displays the list of positioned parts to case. You can delete a specific positioned part using the Delete command.

Pick Parts
Enables you to select a part in session.
When you click the command, the Protective Case Definition panel is hidden. Once the part is selected, the panel appears with updated information.
The list of positioned parts to case is displayed below.
Clear All
Enables you to remove all the items from the list.

Case Parameters

Lets you define all the required parameters for the creation of the protective case grid structure around the list of selected parts.

Parameter Description
Type of Casing Defines the type of casing. The type can be as follows:
  • Cuboid. This type is defined by default.
  • Cylinder.
Spacing With Parts Defines the spacing between casing and parts.
Wall Thickness Defines the casing thickness.
Grid Width Defines the grid width.
Grid Spacing Defines the grid spacing.
Notes: This parameter is not available if the option Auto-Compute Grid Spacing Parameters is selected.
Auto-Compute Grid Spacing Parameters Computes automatically grid spacing so it is 5% less than the least dimension of the smallest selected part.
Generate Protective Case for Each Part Generates an internal protective case for each part.
Spacing for Protective Case Defines the spacing between the internal protective case and the associated part.
Notes: Only available if Generate Protective Case for Each Part is selected.

Label Parameters

Lets you specify a label on the generated protective case, such as:

  • A list of each item and its quantity
  • A description of the content
  • The date of the print
  • An identification of the 3D printing
Parameter Description
Create a Label on Protective Case Enables you to include labels and plates in the protective case geometry.
Faces to Be Used for Plate Location Defines faces to use for plate location. You can define different options according to the selected type.

Type Options
Cylinder
  • Side
  • Top
Cuboid
  • Front
  • Back
  • Left
  • Right
  • Top

Plate Location Within the Face Defines plate location within the face. You can define different options according to the selected type.

Type Options
Cylinder
  • Up
  • Bottom
Cuboid
  • Up Left
  • Up Right
  • Bottom Left
  • Bottom Right

Plate Length and Plate Width Defines plate length and width.
Notes:
  • The default dimensions result as a rectangular shape.
  • If the plate dimensions exceed the protective case dimensions, then the plate is limited to:
    • The dimensions of the bigger side for Cuboid type
    • The dimensions of the cylindrical surface for Cylinder type.
Label Orientation Defines the text orientation inside the plate.
Edit Text Opens the Label Edition panel, which lets you customize label parameters. Click OK to update the label parameters and the PPR tree with the new protective case structure.
