Generating a Scan Path

In this step, you will generate the scan path according to parameters that you will define in a rule.

  1. From the Programming section of the action bar, click Scan Path Generation .
  2. Expand a part in the Define and generate slicing and scan path panel that appears.
  3. From the Rules selected list, select Create New Rules and enter a name in the Rules name box, such as Build Process Rules.1
  4. Expand the Build Process Rules tab and specify parameters such as:
    • Recoating Time
    • Start Temperature
    • Gas Flow
    • Linking Speed

Scanning parameters are not used during simulation. They are taken into account in the output file only.

Note: To import, export, and reuse the created rules, use Rules Management . For more information, see Managing Rules.

The rule with the specified parameters is automatically created and saved in session.
  5. Click OK to close the dialog box.
You have set the new scan path rule for the part.
  6. Click Assign Optics to assign lasers automatically or manually to the part.
  7. Click Generate to generate the slicing and scan path according to the parameters defined.

Note: If the support structure is up-to-date, you must regenerate the scan path to take it into account.

The Scan Path Generation progress bar appears. Click Cancel to stop the computation.
  8. Click Display Path to view the scan path information.
Three displays containing scan path information appear and the scan paths are visible in the work area.
