Replace Resource

The Replace Resources dialog box appears when you select Replace Resource.

This dialog box contains controls for:

This page discusses:

Tools or Machine Tab

Machine Tab
Searches imported generic machines equivalent to the machine in the database, if all of the attributes are identical.
Tools Tab
Searches imported tool resources in the database that satisfy the search criteria.

Search Resource Filter

This expander contains options to filter the resources listed in Search Results section and criteria for searching the resources in the database. It includes the following expanders.

Which

In Session
Resources from the current cell that are not in the database are available for search.
Saved
Resources from the current cell that are in the database are available for search.

What

You can specify What options when searching for a resource in the database. Only selected options and selected attributes in the Filter section are considered while searching resources in the database.

Tool Parameters
Search imported tools and tool assemblies in the database that satisfy the selected criteria.
Parameter Description
Name If selected, the name of the tool in the session must contain the name of the resource in the database. In other words, the name of a resource in the database must be a substring of the tool in the session.
Geometry Select this check box to consider geometry attributes during search. If selected, click Filter to specify which attributes to consider during search. To select all attributes, select All Parameters.
Note: This option is selected by default.
Technology Select this check box to consider the technological attributes during search. If selected, click Filter to specify which attributes to consider during search. To select all attributes, select All Parameters.
Note: This option is cleared by default.
Tool Assembly Parameters
Search imported tool assemblies in the database that satisfy the selected criteria.
Parameter Description
Name If selected, the name of the tool assembly in the session must contain the name of the resource in the database. In other words, the name of a resource in the database must be a substring of the tool assembly in the session.
Technology Select this check box to consider technology attributes during search. If selected, click Filter to specify which attributes to consider during search. To select all attributes, select All Parameters.
Note: This option is cleared by default.
Gage Select this check box to consider the gage values during search. Selecting this option enables Minimum Tolerance (Tol Min) and Maximum Tolerance (Tol Max). These values define the lower and upper tolerance range respectively for the gage values. The values entered in minimum tolerance and maximum tolerance are relative to the tool assembly gage of the resource.

Example: For a tool assembly with a gage value of 100mm: If the Tol Min is -3mm and Tol Max is +4mm, then resources having an absolute gage value in the range from 97mm to 104mm are considered as possible solutions.

Note: By default, both the values are 0. Gage lengths must be an exact match.
Insert Parameters
Search imported insert holder Mill and Drill tool assemblies that have inserts in the database that satisfy the selected criteria.
Parameter Description
Name If selected, the name of the insert in the session must contain the name of the resource in the database. In other words, the name of a resource in the database must be a substring of the insert in the session.
Feeds and Speeds Configuration
Select this check box to consider feeds and speeds configurations during search. If selected, key configuration values become available. Key configuration values are available in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Machining . By default, key configuration values are Machined material, Machining type, and Quality of surface.
In addition to key configuration values, each option has two extra values:
  • From Resource: Considers the key configuration value defined on the replacement resource.
  • Any: Ignores the particular key configuration value as a search criteria.
  • Key Value from Preference: Candidate resources must have a feeds and speed configuration defined with that particular key configuration value.
Machine Attachment
Select this check box to consider the machine attachment during search. You can select the values to filter search results based on the Type and Characteristic of an attachment.
In addition to the values defined in Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Machining , each option has two extra values:
  • From Resource: Considers the attachment value defined on the replacement resource.
  • Any: Ignores the particular attachment value as a search criteria.
  • Value from Preference: Candidate resources must have the same attachment as defined on the replacement resource.
Notes:
  • Information about selecting options and PLM attributes is in the CATPreference file.
  • What expander is not available for machines.

Where

You can specify Where options when searching for a resource in the database.

Collaborative Space
Select this check box to enter a pattern name to search the available collaborative spaces.
List Library Class
Select this check box to select a library class from the list. Click More to search a new library class in the database.
The last used library class is selected by default.

Search Results

This expander displays the list of resources to be replaced and the candidate replacement resources. It contains the following expanders.

Results Filter

Filters resources displayed in the Results section.

Filter capabilities:

  • Not inspected: No search action for this resource yet.
  • Solved: Only one solution exists in the database. Replacement is available this resource.
  • To solve: Several solutions exist in the database. Choose one solution among the proposed ones.
  • No solution: No solutions exist in the database.
  • Filter on tools: Filters on the tools.
  • Filter on tool assemblies: Filters on the tool assemblies.
  • Select All : Select all resources in the list.
  • Search: Search equivalent resources in the database for the selected elements of the list.

Notes:
  • If several equivalent components exist, select the required equivalent components in the database for the tool from the list.
  • If more than one equivalent component is found, the To solve filter is applied because a manual action is required to confirm the replacement of the tool in tool assembly. To replace the tool, expand the tool level and then select the equivalent tool

Results

Shows the session or saved resources and the solutions resources searched from the database, based on the search criteria specified in What expander.

If multiple solutions are available in the database, then a list showing the number of potential solutions appears. Selecting this list displays the list of top-level candidate resources. If there is a single solution in the database, then the solution resource name appears.

You can verify resource information like Machine Attachment, Geometrical Parameters, Feeds and Speeds Key values by expanding the Selected Resource Attributes expander. Verifying this information helps you to make a selection if multiple results are available, or if you want to verify the search results.

Selected Resource Attribute

Shows the PLM attributes and components of resources in the selected line in Results section.

This expander has a split pane to show the information about the aggregated components of both the selected resource and the candidate resource.

Beneath it, important information like geometric PLM attributes, Machine Attachment, Geometrical Parameters, Feeds and Speeds Key values of resources (both in session and solution tool resource) are displayed.

Notes:
  • If there are multiple replacement candidates for a particular resource: Components and attribute information in this expander updates automatically if you select a new resource from the list of available replacement resources.
  • This expander is not available for machines.
