Selecting the Active Simulation Object

You can change the active simulation object (ASO) in several ways, depending on your work habits and needs. When you first enter 3D Simulation, the ASO is defined automatically to the top product or resource node in your model or to the ASO from the previous session. You can change the ASO as often as you like, and move between ASOs with one click.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: This scenario assumes that you have already activated 3D Simulation. To access App Options, right-click in the work area, and select Display > App Options.

Change Your Active Simulation Object

You can access Change Active Simulation Object from App Options. In this task, resources are defined as the ASO, although this method also works for selecting products as ASOs.

Before you begin:

The initial ASO is a robot station. When 3D Simulation opens, the entire robot station is lit.

For this ASO, only the commonly available simulation panels appear.

  1. Select a robot to become the ASO.
  2. From App Options, click Change Active Simulation Object .

The robot becomes the ASO. Robot-specific panels appear in addition to the commonly available ones.

The new ASO remains lit, but the other objects in the robot station are dimmed.

Change Your ASO with Selection Assistant

You can use a selection assistant to change the ASO when the object you initially select is a child of the ASO you want.

  1. Click Change Active Simulation Object , and select an object.
The selection assistant, which consists of the ASO icon and the slider, appears next to the object. If you move the mouse away from the selection assistant, the yellow indicator light becomes the ASO.

  2. Slide the selection assistant to the right.
The electrical box, which is the parent of the yellow indicator, appears. If you move the mouse away from the selection assistant, the electrical box becomes the ASO.

  3. Slide the selection assistant farther right.
The robot station, which is the parent of the electrical box, appears. If you move the mouse away from the selection assistant, the electrical box becomes the ASO.

If you move the selection assistant left, you can select one of children the selection assistant has previously shown you.
