Creating a ZLevel Machining Operation

ZLevel operations are finishing or semi-finishing machining operations that machine the whole part by parallel horizontal planes that are perpendicular to the tool axis.

  1. From the Surface Machining section of the action bar, click ZLevel .
    A ZLevel entity is added to the manufacturing program. The ZLevel dialog box opens at the Geometry tab .
  2. Still in the Geometry tab:
    1. Right-click the red area that represents the part geometry.
    2. Choose Select faces... in the context menu.
    3. Select a belt of faces around the outside of the part.
      The edges surrounding the selected faces are highlighted.

    4. Click OK to confirm your selection.
  3. Select the Tool tab to choose a tool.
  4. Click Display or Simulate to check the validity of the machining operation.
    • The tool path is computed.
    • A progress indicator is displayed.
    • You can cancel the tool path computation at any moment before 100% completion.


  5. Click OK in the Simulate or Display dialog box, and again in the main dialog box to create the machining operation.
    The tool path is created.

The outside of the part is machined.
