Importing a Spot Weld Trajectory

You can create a spot weld trajectory by importing data from an external spreadsheet file.

The Excel file must contain all of the information required to generate a spot weld trajectory, organized in the following format:

TagGroup Name : Spot Weld Trajectory.1
Tag Prefix Tag Index Tag Suffix X(mm) Y(mm) Z(mm) Yaw(deg) Pitch(deg) Roll(deg)
MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.1 3572.56 -2315.21 1242.15 0.000471402 -0.000491704 -4.05E-09
MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.2 3544.33 -2347.9 1242.15 0.000272719 -0.000563884 -2.68E-09
MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.3 3525.01 -2373.27 1242.15 0.000273624 -0.000566525 -2.71E-09

Supported formats for importing are xls, xlxs, xlsm and csv.

Before you begin: You must have an Excel spreadsheet file containing spot trajectory data formatted as described above.
  1. From the Setup section of the action bar, click Import Trajectory .
The Import Trajectory dialog box appears, and you are prompted to select an Excel file to import.
  2. Select the file and click Open.
The Import Trajectory dialog box prompts you to select a Trajectory Type and Reference.
  3. Select Spot Weld from the Trajectory Type list.

Selecting Tag creates a new tag group instead of a spot trajectory.

  4. Select the Reference type and click OK.

This setting provides the context in which the positions are specified in the spreadsheet file.

    • When Global is selected, positions are specified relative to the current root or the global frame.
    • When Owner is selected, positions are specified relative to the context in which the spot weld trajectory is created. It is based on the current ASO and is the first organizational element in the path from the ASO to the root resource.
    • When User Defined is selected, positions are defined relative to a product that you select. The trajectory is attached to the product upon import.
The trajectory is created under the current organizational resource.

Information describing the status of the created welds appears, and a log is generated in the Messages Reporting panel with details of the import.

    Import Successful
    MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.1 : Created
    MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.2 : Created
    MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.3 : Created
    MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.4 : Created
    MFG_RH_SPOT_WELD.5 : Created
    ...

The Create/Edit Trajectory panel also appears, prompting you to detail the new spot weld trajectory.

  5. Reconnect manufacturing welds as necessary, and click OK.
    The Create/Edit Trajectory panel disappears.
