Using Angular Limitation Functionality

You can do different functions with Angular Limitations. Once completed you must click again the icon to deactivate.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Have a manikin in your scenario.

Creating Preferred Angles

You can create Preferred Angles by dividing the total range of motion of the manikin into a certain number of ranges. It is possible to compute a global and a local score that quantifies the current posture. You can also select or edit the manikin's DOF (degree of freedom). The DOF icon represents the editing movement. For example, the DOF can be flexion/extension, abduction/adductions, rotation, and others.

  1. Click Angular Limitations .
  2. Click the Left Arm.


  3. Click anywhere in the white range of motion region with the right mouse.
    The context menu appears.
  4. Select the required DOF:
    • DOF 1

    • DOF 2

    • DOF 3

  5. Select:
    • With the right mouse, click anywhere in the white range of motion region and the context menu appears and select Add.
    • Or double-click in the white range.
    The Preferred angles dialog box appears.
  6. Specify a score, limits, and Close.


    The new Pref. angle 1 is displayed in the work area.

Altering Angular Limitations

You can display the values of the angular limitations for the DOF (degrees of freedom) that is active and alter them.

  1. Click Angular Limitations .
  2. Select Left Arm.
    The limits arrows appear. These arrows are specified by default at the mean values of movement limits. The colored region represents the total range of motion for that DOF.
  3. Double-click a limit arrow head.
    The Angular Limitations dialog box appears.
  4. Click Activate manipulation.
    This activates the grayed out Lower and Upper limit windows.
  5. Change the Upper limit to 140 deg.

    The change appears on the manikin.



  6. Click Close.

Moving a Segment Using Angular Limitations

You can manipulate manikin segments using the Angular Limitations.

  1. Click Angular Limitations .
  2. Select a segment, Left Arm.


    Moving the mouse over the blue text, the cursor changes to the picking hand .
  3. Press and hold down the left mouse and move the mouse to manipulate the segment.
