Creating a New Package

You can create and define a new package of a vehicle's interior data.

A package is a group of motor vehicle dimensions used as an input for the occupant posture prediction of algorithms. A motor vehicle can include one or many designated seating positions, such as the driver’s position and front, second, and third row passenger positions.

The package parameters comply with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) standards J1100 and J4004.

When you view your data in the tree, the package is to a node under the physical product's 3D Shape.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin: Define the manikin you want to use in the study.

Creating a New Package

Creates a new package for a manikin.

  1. Click Package .
    The Package Dialog Box appears.
Notes: Edit after Creation is selected by default. If you clear it, the Package Definition dialog box is not displayed and the package is created with default values.

If you have already created a package of vehicle interior dimensions, then it prompts to select a destination. The destination can be part data or an existing package of vehicle interior dimensions.

  2. Type a package name or use the default.
  3. Select New 3D Part.
  4. Click OK.
The package adds to the tree as a default package that does not assign to a manikin and a Package Definition Dialog Box appears.

The vehicle interior data appears in the work area.

When the dialog box is open, handles appear on the 3D data.

  5. Using the dialog box, the handles, or combination of both, modify the package definition to suit your testing needs, and click OK.

Tip: If you select Show illustrating figure, a diagram appears showing which fields correspond to which options in the dialog box.

The vehicle interior data appears in the 3D data view.

Creating and Position a Steering Wheel

This provides a package with the steering wheel location and the dimensions. This requires steering wheel inputs to create a driver posture. Once you have the geometry correctly positioned, you can use the SAE measurement that goes with it.

  1. Click New Package .
The New Package dialog box appears. Proceed with the creation of a package in a new 3D Part or selects an existing package node in an existing 3D Part.
  2. Click Driver tab.
  3. Click Steering Wheel Selection from the list menu.

When the steering wheel section activates, you can select the list section, the geometry of the steering wheel. After selecting, the steering wheel representation of the package moves to the appropriate position.

Note: The selection of geometry and the steering wheel parameters L11, W7, H17 are unavailable for editing if verifying the fixed steering wheel option.
