Wire EDM Machining is a process by which stock is cut by burning through the material by means of heat produced by electrical sparks between the stock and a wire. The part and wire are immersed in a dielectric (electrically non-conducting) fluid which also acts as a coolant and flushes away debris. It is an extremely accurate machining process adapted to small parts with complex shape including cutouts and thin walls. Wire EDM machines use CNC movement to produce the desired contour or shape. It uses a continuous-traveling vertical wire under tension as electrode. Examples of a few types of parts are custom gears, stripper plates and mold and die components.
