Importing a File

This procedure describes how to import V5 data into V6 robotics apps.

This task shows you how to:

Before you begin:

Using the V5 Document Cleaner

Before importing a V5 file into V6, it is recommended that you run the V5 document cleaner on any V5 data before performing an import to ensure a clean import to V6. This cleaner is available from the Desk in V5.

  1. In a V5 session, open the file to be imported into V6.
  2. Select File > Desk.
  3. Right-click the product or process node to be cleaned and select CATDUAV5.

  4. Click Clean.
  5. Click Run to clean the file.
When the operation is complete, the results are displayed under CATDUA V5 Information:
  6. Close the Desk.
  7. Save and close the V5 document.

Importing the File

This task shows you how to import the V5 file.

  1. Add the file extensions to be ignored in Me > Preferences > File Based Design Import > FBDI General.

If a process document is to be imported, the 'act' extension must be added.

  2. If you want to import device-specific information (such as such as controller, home position, speed and acceleration, travel limits, profiles), ensure that Import Device Specific Information from V5 Products is selected in Me > Preferences > General > File Based Design Import > Mfg equipment Design tab.

Note: When this option is not selected, the V5 device specific information from a product is not imported to V6. This prevents the automatic conversion of V5 product as V6 resource.

  3. Select PLM Access > Import > CATIA File.
The Select File dialog box appears.
  4. Select the V5 file to import.
The Select the files to Import dialog box appears with the name of any child files.
  5. A panel displays the list of documents to import. Select the files, click OK in the Select the files to Import dialog box, then click Open in the Select File dialog box.
The Files to Process dialog box opens to provide information about the import. You can choose to keep a report of the import status.
  6. Click Import.
The Import Report summarizes the import once it is finished.
  7. Click OK.
The imported data is open in the correct application.
