Calling Tasks

You can insert the call of subroutines, tasks, and services in the sequence.

This task shows you how to:

Run Subroutines and Internal Tasks

You can call subroutines and internal tasks.

  1. In the Usable window, expand the Usable Tasks row.


  2. Select a task and drag it to the Sequencing Editor window.


    • A Run instruction is added to the editor window.
    • The Run Task dialog box appears.

    The parameters of the Run Task instructions are optional:

    • Goto Label must be entered if the Run Task instruction is the target of a Goto instruction.
    • If Display Name is entered, its value replaces the instruction text: Run Task1.

  3. Click the check mark.

Call Services

You can call services from other resources.

  1. In the Usable window, expand the Services row.


  2. Select a service and drag it to the Sequencing Editor window.


    • A Call instruction is added to the editor window.
    • The Service Call dialog box appears.

    The parameters of the Service Call instructions are optional:

    • Goto Label must be entered if the Service Call instruction is the target of a Goto instruction.
    • If Display Name is entered, its value replaces the instruction text: Call Device Task.

    Note: Service calls are exclusive on a resource occurrence, therefore two service calls cannot be launched simultaneously on the same resource.

    In the scenario above, service1 is played first, and service 2 is played when service 1 completes.

  3. Click the check mark.

Call Parameterized Tasks

You can call or run tasks with IOs defined. In this case, you must assign a parameter value at the creation of the Call or Run instructions.

  1. Select a task or a service having IOs defined.
  2. Select the task and drag it to the Sequencing Editor window.


    The Parameters frame is now available. It contains all the IOs of the task to be run. In our example, the task has two IOs: O1 and I1.

  3. In the O1 and the I1 lists, select a variable or a IO to be assigned to the parameter.


    Warning: You must assign all of the parameters. Otherwise the instruction will be in error.
  4. Click the check mark.


    The Call or the Run instruction is created.
