Overview

This installation guide is intended for administrators who need to install the MQL command line interface tool for executing commands and scripts.

The 3DSpace server installation includes the MQL command line interface tool. You only need to follow the instructions in this guide if you want to install the MQL command line interface tool on a computer other than the server.

Important: You only need to install the MQL command line interface tool if you need to use it on a system other than the one running the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This page discusses:

About the MQL Command Line Interface

MQL users must be valid licensees of the products that are configured and tested. However, a user's production license can also be used with the system installed for Studio Modeling Platform.

This guide describes these tasks:

  • Installing and updating the platform—You can install Studio Modeling Platform software on UNIX/Linux or Windows and run updates as needed. See "Installing Studio Modeling Platform".
  • Configuring 3DSpace—You can set environment variables according to your system needs. See "Configuring 3DSpace".

Installing with the Installer

Most products are installed using the Installer, a set of common installation tools. Many of the products have the Installer core files embedded in their product installation media, in which case, you do not need to unload them separately. The Installer Guide describes how to:

  • Unload the media for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform product you want to install, in this case, the Native Apps.
  • Determine whether you need to unload the Installer media.
  • Launch the 3DEXPERIENCE platform product installation, in this case, the Native Apps.

After launching the product installation with the generic instructions in the Installer Guide, you then continue to install the Native Apps with the instructions specific to it in this guide.

Conventions

When the UNIX installation procedure asks for input, it provides the default value in brackets []. Default values for directory paths are based on the environment, so the examples in this book show empty brackets. To use the default, simply press Enter.

Throughout this guide, certain words appear in capital letters, which indicates that you need to enter specific information for your environment. Below is a description of some of the abbreviations that are used in this manner.

  • INSTALL_PATH—the directory in which to install the software. Once installed, this may be referred to as one of:
  • ENOVIAHOME (UNIX) or ENOVIA_INSTALL (Windows) for Studio Modeling Platform
  • SERVERHOME (UNIX) or SERVER_INSTALL (Windows) for 3DSpace Service (CSR)

Published examples in this document, including but not limited to scripts, programs, and related items, are intended to provide some assistance to customers by example. They are for demonstration purposes only. It does not imply an obligation to provide examples for every published platform, or for every potential permutation of platforms/products/versions/etc.

Directory Naming Conventions

For Collaboration and Approvals installation, the name of the directory containing mql.exe CANNOT include any spaces.

For Studio Modeling Platform and 3DSpace Service installation, you can use spaces in the name of the directory containing the JDK.
