3D Simulation Panel Option Controls

The different aspects of a simulation are represented by thumbnails or a line of text. You can organize these thumbnails or modify their appearance. You click Option Controls to display the commands controlling thumbnail appearance.

This page discusses:

Thumbnails or Text

When you create a simulation entity, such a probe, state, or scenario, the definition of that entity is represented in a panel by a thumbnail. You can choose to have the thumbnail shrink to a line of text.

By default, when you create an object, the object is represented by a thumbnail of the object.

When you can see thumbnails, you can click Show Text to see the text view.

Note: graphical information about the status of information (for example, the check indicating that the item is part of the current scenario) remains available in the text format.

You can return to the thumbnail view by clicking Show Thumbnail .

Thumbnail Size

You can control the size of the thumbnails.

If you choose to display thumbnails, you can click Display [Thumbnail Size] to select small, medium, or large thumbnails. By default, the thumbnail size is defined as medium, although you can alter that default using Me > Preferences > App Preferences > Simulation > Digital Manufacturing Apps Common Services > Live Simulation Common Services > 3DSimulation. See 3DSimulation.

The icon associated with each Display [Thumbnail Size] varies in appearance according to the target thumbnail size; the icon shown in Option Controls varies depending on the current thumbnail size. The table below shows which Display [Thumbnail Size] is paired with which thumbnail size.

Sorting and Grouping Thumbnails

You can group the thumbnails in a variety of ways.

For the Simulation State panel, you can sort the thumbnails manually or accept the default alphabetical ordering. The nominal state always appears first. You see all the available states, not only the states associated with the ASO. To modify the order manually, you can drag and drop items. The order persists from one session to another unless you modify it.

For other panels, the thumbnails you create in any panel are sorted alphabetically, by name. You can click one of the thumbnail arrangement commands to sort the thumbnails:

  • Arrange by Name
  • Arrange by Owner
  • Arrange by Type
  • Arrange by Active Status

Note: If your app uses the Dynamic Clash or Dynamics probe, those thumbnails are always displayed first, independently of which Arrange By option is selected.

If you select any of the thumbnail arrangement commands besides Arrange by Name , click Enable/Disable Thumbnail Grouping to arrange the thumbnails in groups.

When you have a group created, you can click Collapse All to minimize the appearance of each group.

Clicking Expand All restores the full view of the group. If you want to apply one tab's grouping options to all the panels, click Apply All .

Because you can group thumbnails and contract the groups, the thumbnails take up only one column to the left of the panel. This leaves you with more room to work on your work area. You can also hide the panels by clicking the gray, tabbed, left arrow at the center of the left edge of your app.

Thumbnail Appearance

The appearance of the data in the thumbnails varies.

The appearance of the thumbnail depends on:

  • Viewer options (such as Ambience)
  • View mode options (such as shading with material).

Filtering the Display of Behaviors

The Behavior side tab provides additional Option Controls commands that allow you to restrict or expand the display of behaviors that exist for the active simulation object.

Display Simulated Object's Behavior displays thumbnails representing the behavior (operations, tasks, sequences) for the active simulation object.
Display First Level Children's Behavior displays thumbnails representing the behavior (operations, tasks, sequences) for first-level children of the active simulation object.
Display All Children's Behavior displays thumbnails representing the behavior (operations, tasks, sequences) for all children of the active simulation object.
Show All Tag Groups displays all of the tag groups defined for the active simulation object in the work area.
Update All Tasks updates the visualization of all tasks in the work area.
Hide All Tasks hides the visualization of all tasks in the work area.
