Snapping Products or Resources

You can juxtapose two products or resources using Snap.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: The resources should be loaded into the session in the tree, using the catalog browser or Insert Existing Product or Resource .

Snap Resources

You can snap one resource to another.

  1. Click Snap .
  2. Point the mouse to the top of the face of work-table (resource) and select any plane to snap.
    The Robot is placed at the snap point.

    You can change the orientation and position of the snapped object by selecting Robot. You can also define the X-Axis orientation to be parallel to any edge of the selection by clicking in the context toolbar.

  3. Select a resource to snap to the 2D element.
    1. Click one of the sides of rectangle (resource) in the session.
    2. Select the resource and define the new orientation of X -axis.
      The 2D element is selected, the four points (start, end, mid, and center of rectangle) are shown in red color. A green marker displays, you can select a point on the 2D line other than red points.
    3. Click center of the rectangle.
      The context toolbar appears.
    4. Select the snap resources and choose a resource.
      The first resource is enabled and can be used to snap on a 3D axis system.
    5. Click Finalize snap or press Ctrl+K to finalize the snap.
    The 2D element is snapped.
  4. Select snap resources to draft the element choosing Define Plane using robot.
    1. Select the points on the geometry to draft element.
    2. Select a point on face of center or edge midpoint and point.
    3. Select a point as a center or circle made of three chosen points.
    4. Select a plane by three point selection for direction calculation:
      • Origin
      • X-axis
      • Z-axis
    5. Select a plane by two points selection, as origin and as Z- axis direction.
    Note: If you do not want to change the Robot position at the resource to be snapped, do not activate the Local mode. You can select the point to snap the resource.
  5. Select snap resource to 3D axis system.
    1. Click 3D axis system on the resources.
    2. Snap an object on the center of the circular surface (resources).
    3. Pause the mouse on the edge of the circular surface and click when an axis representation appears in the center.
    4. Snap a resource to the 3D surface.
    5. Select Snap Resource and choose a resource.
      The first option is selected.
    6. Pause over the mouse on the surface.
      A plane selection representation appears on the surface.
    7. Click the plane selection representation.
    8. Snap on the floor and select a resource, and choose resource snap.
      The first option is selected.
    9. Pause over the option on the empty space.
      A cross-wire representation with 3D location appears.
    10. Click Snap on the floor.
    The resource is snapped to 3D axis system.
  6. Select Snap Resource to point as center of three point circle.
    1. Click Three Point Circle and click any one of the three corners of the table.
    2. Click Define new orientation of x-axis and select one edge as direction to align robot.
    3. Select Lock Translation and Rotation in Me > Preferences > Infrastructure > DELMIA Infrastructure > Resource Positioning tab.
    4. Select a resource and choose resource snap to align two object faces.
      Lock Management dialog box appears.
    5. Click Select a Point on the geometry to align the robot at the center of face of the table (resource).
    6. Select the robot and choose Snap resource.
    7. Click select a point on the geometry in context toolbar.
    8. Move the mouse on the resource (table).
    9. Select face center, edge, end points, and midpoint and lock all the three axes.
    10. Select Lock Translations and choose X, Y, and Z axes to lock all the three axes.
    The table (resource) face is aligned and X, Y, and Z axes are unchanged.

Snap Resources to Drafting Element

You can snap the resources to drafting element.

  1. Select the resource and define the new orientation of X -axis.
    The X-axis orientation of the snapped robot changes.
  2. Select Finalize step.
    The option saves and finishes the snapping resources to 2D element.
  3. Select the Local Translation and Rotation to lock option in the snapped resources:
    The Lock Management dialog box appears.
    • Select Lock Translations and select X or Y or Z option to restrict translation.
    • Select Lock Rotation to restrict rotation. The tools option displays lock during snap.
