Attaching Documents

You can attach a new document or an existing document to a product structure. Documents may be specifications, drawings, reports, design information, company templates and human resources forms. You can also attach documents using drag-and-drop.

Note: You can attach only CBP documents under unified material.

This task shows you how to:

Attaching a New Document

Before you begin: Open a product structure in Product Finder or Collaborative Lifecycle.
  1. Select a part in the product structure tree.
  2. Right-click the part and select Document > Attach New Document .
    The New Content dialog box appears.
  3. Change the Type to Document and select Document or engineering document, depending on the type of document you want to attach to the object.
    The corresponding Document or engineering document dialog box appears, according to the type of document selected.

  4. Select a document in the Select File dialog box and click Save.

    In the engineering document dialog box, the Name, Document Name, and File Name attributes are automatically filled according to the properties of the selected file.

    Note: Open the Files Information tab to remove the selected document and attach another document. Click Browse to choose a file.
  5. Click OK
    You see a message confirming that the engineering document has been successfully attached, and it is visible in the product structure.

Attach Existing Document

Before you begin: Open a product structure in Product Finder or Collaborative Lifecycle.
  1. Right-click a part in the product structure and select Document > Attach Existing Document .
    You can see a message.
  2. Select a document by doing either of the following:
    • Select a document attached to another product from a different tab or from search results.
    • Search for documents using the Search section of the top bar. Select a document from the immersive table.

    You can add multiple documents simultaneously by selecting all of them from the search results. For more information about the immersive PLM content, see the Collaborative Lifecycle User's Guide.

    Note: The mouse pointer changes to if you select documents, and it changes to if you select other objects.

    You see a message confirming that the document has been successfully attached, and it is visible in the product structure.

Attach Document Using Drag-and-Drop

You can attach documents from the search results to a product structure using drag-and-drop.

Before you begin: Open a product structure in Product Finder or Collaborative Lifecycle
  1. From the search results, choose a document.
  2. Drag the selected document over a product node in the product structure.
    Note: The mouse pointer changes to during drag-and-drop. If drag-and-drop is not possible, the mouse pointer changes to .

    The document appears under the object node in the product structure.
