Creating a Rough Offset

You can create offsets from complex geometries, that may contain either sharp or smooth features. The offset mesh output presents no self intersections since too small features are removed automatically. The offset distance is respected all along the mesh.Rough Offset creates offsets from complex geometries. The offset distance is respected all along the mesh.

  1. From the Digitized Data section of the action bar, click Rough Offset .
  2. Select a manifold mesh. It can be watertight or with boundaries.

Note: You can select several meshes as input and get the global offset.

  3. Enter a positive or negative Offset Distance.
  4. Select a direction.
    • for One Direction.

    • for One Direction extended.

    • Click for Both Directions.

The arrow symbolizes the Offset Distance and its direction (positive, negative, in one or both directions) as you specify it.
  5. Set the Granularity that controls the coarseness of the offset mesh and click Apply.

The smaller the value of Granularity, the higher the quality of the offset mesh:

    • With a high Granularity value:

    • With a low Granularity value:

Important: Be aware that a small Granularity value requires more time and more memory to compute the offset mesh. In extreme cases, the computation may even be impossible. You are then be requested to increase the Granularity value.

  6. Click Apply, then OK.

An Offset.x feature is created.
