What Is Offline Licensing?

Offline licensing allows users to extract a license from a DS License Server for a certain number of days and to use it on a laptop disconnected (or not) from the network.

When the offline license is reserved for use, a license is installed on a laptop connected to the network. For the duration of the reservation, the extracted license is tied to the laptop. This license is referred to as an offline license.

Extracting an offline license in a virtual machine (for example VMWare) is not supported.

Note: Tokens, Credits and Casual usage named user licenses cannot be extracted and used offline.

Once the offline license has been installed on the laptop, the laptop can be disconnected from the network. Once extracted, the license is no longer available from the DS License Server. The license only becomes available once more when the reservation period expires or when the user restores the license. The maximum extraction duration is 30 days for offline licences.

There are three possible scenarios for offline license usage:

  • you have installed both the 3DSpace server and native apps on your laptop, in which case you can extract ALL licenses assigned to you (both native app and server licenses) enabling you to work wherever you want
  • you installed only native apps on your laptop, and you need to connect to a remote 3DSpace server from wherever you are, in which case you only need to extract native app licenses assigned to you.

Offline licenses are managed using the Local Key Management tool.

Warning: Once extracted, the offline license keys are saved in the following folders:

C:\ProgramData\DassaultSystemes\Licenses

Create the folder manually if it does not already exist and check that you have write access to it.

This folder and the files included in it must not be changed nor even moved, renamed nor access rights modified. If this rule is not followed, the extracted licenses will no longer be available on the client computer, and will become available on the license server only after the extraction duration has expired. Certain backup or security software products perform such forbidden changes. Configure your backup software to not backup this folder. Configure your security software to not scan files with the .LIC extension in this folder.
