Python Scripting on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

Python scripts enable you to automate the creation and editing of objects in a simulation.

You can run a Python script directly from the 3DEXPERIENCE interface to create or edit a series of objects automatically without performing a set of repetitive interactions in the user interface. When you run a script, its objects are created in your current simulation, and they are visible in the app as soon as the appropriate lines of the script have been run.

The scripts you select must be available on a local directory or an accessible shared directory. Python scripts cannot be stored in the 3DEXPERIENCE database.

Note: Abaqus and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform have different data model and APIs, so you cannot reuse existing Abaqus Python scripts in 3DEXPERIENCE Physics Apps. If there are some general purpose routines built into the scripts to do some specific operations like data manipulation, some of those routines could possibly be used in a limited manner.

After you specify the script you want to run, you can either run the script immediately, or you can open the script in an interactive editor. Opening the script first enables you to examine its contents and edit or debug portions of the script before you execute it. Python scripts open in IDLE, which is Python's Integrated Development Environment.
