Applying Ball Joints

You can use a ball joint to define a fixed center of rotation for a surface; the center of rotation cannot move, but the surface is free to rotate about this center.

  1. From the Restraints section of the action bar, click Ball Joint .
  2. Optional: Enter a descriptive Name.
  3. Select geometry supports in the model.

    You must apply a ball joint to one or more faces.

  4. To change the center of rotation for the ball joint, right-click its glyph and select one of the positioning tools.

    You can move the center of rotation to a selected point, move it to an entered coordinate position, or use the Robot to reposition it. (If you use the Robot, select it again in the context toolbar to return to normal selection.

  5. Click OK.
