Exporting Abaqus Files

You can export a simulation as an Abaqus input file. The input file summarizes your simulation in terms of its pure finite element representation using the Abaqus keyword format. The input file can be interpreted and modified by other Abaqus interfaces and analysts familiar with these interfaces.

An exported Abaqus input file can be:

  • analyzed using Abaqus 6.13 or later, or
  • imported as a model database into Abaqus/CAE 6.13 or later.

The default unit system for input file export is retrieved from Me > Preferences.

Before you begin: Click Update in the Setup section of the action bar to ensure that the simulation contents (model, mesh, and scenario) are up to date.

  1. Open the simulation in an app.
  2. From the top bar, select Share > Export > Export Simulation.
The Export Simulation dialog box appears.
  3. Select .
The Save As dialog box appears.
  4. Browse to the location where you want to save the input file.

Note: The folder name cannot contain Unicode characters, such as accents and other diacritical marks.

  5. Enter a name for the input file in the File name field, or select an existing file to overwrite that file.

Change the Save as type entry to save the file as an Abaqus input file.

  6. Click Save to return to the Export Simulation dialog box.
  7. Expand Units to change units for length, mass, time, temperature, and amount of substance (moles or micromoles).
  8. Click Export.
The Export Simulation dialog box is closed, the simulation is exported into the selected file, and the report is displayed.
  9. Optional: In the Export Report dialog box, expand the Execution section to details of the export operation.

Click Save if you would like to save a copy of the report.

The Abaqus input file is saved to the specified location.
