Running a Simulation from the Simulation Finder

You can run a simulation that you are exploring in the Simulation Finder. You cannot run a simulation process created with Process Composer in the Simulation Finder.

Running Simulations
  1. When you are exploring a simulation in a Simulation Finder window, you can do one of the following to run the current simulation:

Warning: You can run a simulation from a Simulation Finder window; however, you cannot run a simulation from a 3DLive Navigator window.

    • Right-click on the tree, and select Run from the context menu.
    • Right-click on the simulation in the 3D area, and select Run from the context menu.
    • From the Simulation Finder section of the action bar, click Run .

If the simulation is already running, you can select Terminate from the context menu to halt its run.

The Run Simulation Item dialog box appears.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Choose Run Locally to run the simulation in background mode on your workstation.
    • Choose Run Remotely and select the host from the menu to run the simulation in background mode on a remote host.
Note: The Run Remotely option is not available for this app. Even though you must select Run Locally, the Common Execution preferences determine whether a simulation runs locally or remotely.
  3. Click OK.

For fluid simulations, the simulation can restart if it was interrupted the last time it ran and you have not made any subsequent changes to it. Otherwise, the app runs the analysis from the beginning of the simulation.

The simulation begins to run in the background, and you return to the Simulation Finder window. You can use the B.I. Essentials in a Search Results window to monitor the status of the simulation.

  4. If you are monitoring the simulation and have enabled notifications, the Simulation Notification dialog box appears when the simulation is complete (see Monitoring a Simulation). If the simulation is still open and you want to view the results, do one of the following:
    • If the Refresh the session to access the updated results from the database check box appears in the Simulation Notification dialog box, select the check box and click Close.

Warning: When you refresh the session, Simulation Finder retrieves all the simulations from the database that are open in your session. If you have not propagated a simulation that you modified, the refresh operation overwrites the simulation that you modified with the simulation from the database.

    • Close the Simulation Notification dialog box and then close the simulation and any document windows that reference the product being simulated. Reopen the simulation to view the results.

    • Simulation Finder accesses the database and retrieves objects that were modified, such as the results.
    • The various representations of the results are synchronized. For example, deformed images display deformed mesh representations.

  5. Click Close when done.
