Running Derived Format Converter

You can run the Derived Format Converter app in two modes.

This task shows you how to:

Run in User Mode (Mono-Machine Mono-User Mode)

In this mode, the derived format generation is executed on the same machine where the user is saving the SOLIDWORKS data to 3DEXPERIENCE server. To connect Derived Format Converter to 3DEXPERIENCE server in mono-machine mono-user mode, do the following:

Open the Design with SOLIDWORKS app from the Compass in the 3DDashboard application to run the SOLIDWORKS native app connected to SOLIDWORKS Power' By 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.
The same connection information is read by 3DEXPERIENCE Derived Format Launcher internally and its own connection is established with 3DEXPERIENCE server. You are informed by a Windows notification about successful connection.

The tooltip on the 3DEXPERIENCE icon for Derived Format Launcher in the notification area shows the status as Idle, indicating that the launcher is ready to process derived format jobs submitted by the user.

Note: Derived format conversion is executed only for the jobs submitted by the same user on the same machine where the 3DEXPERIENCE connector for SOLIDWORKS is running.

Run in Admin Mode (Dedicated Converter Machine Mode)

In this mode, a dedicated Administrator is responsible for the generation of derived formats on a dedicated machine. To connect Derived Format Converter to 3DEXPERIENCE server in administrator mode, do the following:

If you are not an a Administrator, you can generate derived formats for your requests only.

Notes:
  • In the above case, Derived Format Converter automatically connects to 3DEXPERIENCE using the same credentials that you have entered when connecting Design with SOLIDWORKS to 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • The converter remains in idle state and does not process the jobs until the default wait time is complete.
  • To resubmit a failed job, you can demote the job to the Created or the Submitted state.

  1. Login to 3DDashboard with an Administrator role.

If you are already connected with a non-administrator context (for example, Leader or Designer role), follow the below steps to switch your context:

    1. Open the Collaboration and Approvals app from the Compass.
    2. Go to User Menu > My Credentials and choose the administrator context.
  2. Run Derived Format Converter from the Compass.
You are informed by a Windows notification about a successful connection.

The tooltip on the 3DEXPERIENCE icon for Derived Format Launcher in the notification area will show the status as Idle, indicating that the launcher is ready to process derived format jobs submitted by the user.

Notes:
  • Derived format conversion is executed on a dedicated administrator machine. So, it will process all the derived output jobs submitted by all users.
  • The Derived Format Launcher stores the 3DEXPERIENCE connection information in the local preferences of user machine pointed by CATUserSettingPath. For example, the default path is: C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\DassaultSystemes\CATSettings\{Release_Version}\ENODFBatchSettings. This information is populated when 3DEXPERIENCE Derived Format Launcher gets connected to 3DEXPERIENCE for first time, and will be reused for subsequent connections. In case of changes in 3DEXPERIENCE connection parameters (for example: user id, password, server URL etc.,), it is recommended to clean the information in ENODFBatchSettings.
