About Duplicating Features

This Section contains the information required for duplicating markup features using the Cut, Copy, Paste, and Paste Special commands. Using these commands, you can duplicate slides, formats, markers, measures, and sections.

This section contains information about different duplication commands and their behavior with different markup features.

Duplication Commands

The Cut , Copy , Paste , and Paste Special duplication commands available from:

  • The Standard area of the action bar.
  • The context menu of all markup features (in this case, only Cut and Copy commands are available.)
  • The context menu of thumbnails of all slides and formats.

Markup feature can only be duplicated in a slide or a format.

Duplication Behavior of Markup Features

This section explains the duplication behavior of different markup features.

  • Markers/Measures/Sections: These features can be duplicated in a slide or a format. They are duplicated at the same position as the original slide or format.
  • Product structure overload: Overload attributes cannot be copied one by one.
  • Slides and formats: For slides and formats, you can either duplicate all the child features from a slide or a format or you can duplicate selected child features from a slide or format, into the new slide or format.

    You can also create format from a copied slide.

Simple Duplication

The simple duplication method is used to duplicate all the child features from a slide or format into another slide or format.

  • If the Paste command is accessed from the context menu of the target slide or format, the features are duplicated in the target slide or format.
  • If the Paste command is accessed from the action bar, the features are duplicated in the current slide or format.
    Note: You can also duplicate the selected features in an already existing slide.

In simple duplication:

  • All the child features are duplicated.
  • The view point coordinates are duplicated.
  • The active sheet index is duplicated (if any).

Special Duplication

The special duplication method is used to duplicate child features of the selected type from a slide or format into another slide or format.

The Paste Special is only available for duplicating slides and formats.

You can decide which types of children features are to be duplicated in the target slide.

In the Paste special dialog box, you can choose one or more feature types from the following list:

  • Viewpoint
  • 3D Formatting
  • 3D Markers
  • 2D Markers
  • Associated Formats
Note: Using the Create new slide option, you can also choose to create a new slide containing all the copied features or copy these features in the slide from which the Paste Special option is selected.

  • If the Paste Special is accessed from the context menu of a slide or a format, the selected type features are duplicated in the target slide or format.
  • If the Paste Special is accessed from the action bar and the Create new slide option is selected, the selected type features are duplicated in a new slide or a format.
  • If the Paste Special is accessed from the action bar and the Create new slide option is deselected, the selected type features are duplicated in the currently displayed slide.
