Working with Formats

Formats are the features which are used to share several markup features between multiple slides. If a format is linked to a slide, all the features inside the format are displayed in the slide but are non editable.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin: Create a markup.

Create a New Format

You can create a format containing several markup features.

  1. From the Markup section of the action bar, click Formats .

    You can also create a new format using the following methods:

    • Click New Format+ at the upper-right corner of the Formats panel.
    • Right-click the thumbnail of any slide and select Format .

    • All the existing markup features are hidden.
    • The widget enters in the format edit mode and the action bar displays three sections. Format, View, and Tools. The format section contains selected commands from the Markup section of the action bar. The available commands are different for 2D and 3D contexts.
    • A new format appears in the Formats panel on the left of the 3D area. The currently active format is marked with a blue bar on the left of its thumbnail.
    Note: When the widget width is smaller than 550 pixels, the panel is automatically hidden after displaying a format, or activating or deactivating the markup.
  2. From the Format section of the action bar, create the required markup features.
  3. Optional: To delete a format,
    1. Right-click a format’s thumbnail and select Delete.

      To select several formats, press the Shift key and select the required formats.

    2. Select several formats and press the Delete key.

    Whenever a format is deleted all the features under it and links with slides are also deleted.

  4. From the Standard area of the action bar, click Exit Format to exit the format edit mode.

    Tip: Alternatively, you can click in the Formats panel and select Exit Format .

    The widget exits from the format edit mode.

The new format is created and it can be edited or displayed anytime from the Formats panel (available only in the format edit mode).

Note: Whenever you create a new format, only the viewpoint of the previous format is copied in the new format. Every format has its own set of markup features.

Create a Format from a Slide

You can generate a format from a slide. The generated format contains all the child features of the slide.

  1. Right-click a slide's thumbnail and select Format.
    A list of available formats is displayed with a Generate Format option.
  2. Click Generate Format to generate a format from the selected slide.
  3. In the the Generate Format dialog box, select the required check boxes to decide which slide features are to be added to the new format.
  4. Click one of the following options:
    • OK: generates a new format and returns back to the slide edit mode.
    • Close and Edit: generates a new format in the format edit mode.
    • Cancel: cancels the format generation.

    You can change the state of the Associate new Format to the Slide option to generate a format without associating it to the current slide.

Link a Format to a Slide

You can associate a format with one or more slides. All the child features in the format are added to the slide.

  1. In the Slides panel, select the required slides.
  2. Right-click any one of these slides and select Format .
    A list of available formats is displayed.
  3. Select the format to be associated with this slides.
    All the features in the format are now visible in the slide(s).
    Note: You can assign only one format to a slide. If a format is already linked to a slide and another format is selected, then the link with the first format is broken and the new format is linked with the slide.
