Measuring 2D Elements

You can measure lines, curves, arcs, or circles in drawings, and in DXF or DWG files.

Before you begin:
  • Open a drawing, or a DXF or DWG file and create a markup linked to one of the sheets.
  • In the Preferences dialog box, Select the Select 2D geometry inside the view check box under Selection.
  1. From the Markup section of the action bar, click Measure .
  2. Select the elements to measure.

The elements can be of the following types: lines, curves, arcs, or circles.

    Notes:
    • The scale applied to a view in the drawing is considered for measurements. You can create measurements in different views but you cannot create measurements between geometries from different views.
    • If the elements are selected before selecting the command, and if the selected elements are from different views, the pre-selection is canceled.

  3. Optional: Click Chain measures or Stack measures to create multiple measures in series or parallel combination.

    Notes:
    • These options are available if more than one element is selected.
    • If the elements are selected before selecting the command, by default, chain measures are created.
    • If the command is selected first, you can select the option of your choice.

  4. To customize the created measurement, see Customizing Measurements.

    Notes:
    • While switching from one sheet to another, only the persistent measures are kept and the non-persistent measures are removed.
    • Depending on the selected elements, alternative options for creating measures are also available. The alternative measurement options can be radius/diameter, minimum distance, maximum distance, etc.
