Working with Solid Edge® Assembly Family

You can open and save an assembly family in Solid Edge® from MySession.

This page discusses:

Save an Assembly Family to the 3DEXPERIENCE

In MySession, when you click Save from the context menu, a Save dialog box appears. It displays the contents of the selected assembly family to be saved to the 3DEXPERIENCE.

When you open an asm family, you can view the asm family and the list of all its active instances and the root assembly family in MySession.

Note: There is an option in Solid Edge® to generate a file of family instances but that produces an independent assembly that is not connected to its family. There is no concept of an instance member file in Solid Edge®.

When you save an assembly family in the 3DEXPERIENCE, the following information is saved;

  • An active assembly item with all its structure
  • The data that already has generated files
  • The root assembly family

The family file is mapped to XCADModelRepReferenceand the instance of assembly is mapped as VPMReference.

Note: An assembly family and instances are modified if we modify the family. The Save dialog box shows the modified instances and its family and can be saved into the same Revision.

Open an Assembly from the 3DEXPERIENCE into Solid Edge®

When you open an assembly family instance in Solid Edge®, the following files get downloaded;

  • The main family.
  • The ENOUEGCInstances hidden folder having dummy instances file.
Note:
  • When a family is opened, the active assembly instance is saved.
  • When a family is opened, the active assembly instance is the active when the family was saved.
  • When an assembly instance is opened, the family file is loaded in Solid Edge® and this assembly instance is activated inside the family.

Lifecycle of an Assembly Factory

The lifecycle of assembly factories isSolid Edge® coupled together. When a factory is revised or its state is changed, all its instances are revised.

Note: An individual assembly instance cannot be revised or included in the save scope. The factory needs to be included or revised and this will include or revise all its instances.
