Managing Impacted Items

You can identify items are impacted items from impact analysis. You can then assess change on these items and add them to change actions.

This task shows you how to:


Before you begin:
  1. Open the required change request.
  2. Open the Impact Analysis tab.
  3. Select the required impact analysis and click Information.
  4. Open the Impacted Item tab.

Add Impacted Items

After the impact analysis assignees perform scope analysis on the affected items and identify the impacted items, you can add these as impacted items. Impacted items from one impact analysis can be added as analysis basic for another impact analysis.

Only an object that is added as an affected item for a CR can be added as an impacted item for an impact analysis that exists under that CR.

Required access role: At least Reader

  1. From the tab toolbar, click Add Impacted Item.
  2. Search for the required object.
  3. From the search results, select the required object and click OK.

    You can select only an object is added as an affected item to the CR under which the impact analysis exists.

The selected object is added as an impacted item. To remove an impacted item, select the object and click Remove. You can double click the Reason for Change column and add information on why the change is required for this object.

Assess Change on Impacted Items

You can view objects related to impacted items and identify if any of the objects are potential impacted items.

  1. Select an impacted item and click Change Assessment.
    The Relations widget opens.
  2. Open the object.
  3. Click to view the related objects.
  4. If any related object is a potential impacted item, drag the object to the Impacted Items tab.

The selected object is added as an impacted item.

Remove Impacted Item

You can remove items that you have added as impacted items.

Select the impacted item that you want to remove and click Remove.
The selected item is removed.

Modify Impacted Item Details

You can either modify the details of impacted items consecutively or update the details for multiple impacted items at the same time.

  1. Select the items for which you want to modify the details and click Mass Update.
  2. Select the required option to update the attributes for only the selected items or for all items.
  3. Select the check box corresponding to the attribute that you want to modify.
  4. Enter the new value for the attribute.
  5. Click OK.

The selected attribute is updated. In the Impacted Item tab, you can also double click the Reason for Change column for an impacted item and update it.

Add Impacted Item to New Change Action

You can automatically create a change action and add an impacted item as a proposed change.

The impact analysis owner or assignees can perform this action if the associated change request is in any state until the Approved state, and any associated change order is in any state before the In Approval state.

Select an impacted item and click > Orchestrate Change Action.

The change action is created and the impacted item is added to the change action as a proposed item. If you select multiple impacted items, they are added to the change action as proposed changes. If the impacted items belong to different collaborative spaces or organizations, one change action is created for each collaborative space and organization combination and the corresponding impacted items are added as proposed changes.

The created change actions are connected to the impact analysis and are shown in the Change Action tab in the information panel for the impact analysis.

Add Impacted Item to Existing Change Action

You can add an impacted item to an existing change action as a proposed change, when the change action is in the Draft state.

The impact analysis owner or assignees can add impacted items to change actions if the associated change request is in any state until the Approved state, and any associated change order is in any state before the In Approval state.

  1. Select an impacted item and click > Add to Existing Change Action.
  2. From the search results, select a change action and click OK.

The impacted item is added to the change action as a proposed item.
