Working with Images

You can insert GIF, SVG, PNG, and JPEG images into many elements. You can add an image from the list of available files, upload a new image, or drag an image from the Search Results panel or from 3DDrive. You can also insert images from keys in the document map.

If you add an image to the topic title, the image is included in the table of contents when published.

To delete an image, select it and press Delete.

Insert an Existing Image

You can insert an existing image resource into a topic.

  1. Click Insert and select Image.
  2. Do one of the following:
    1. Select the existing image you require from the list. Click Insert.
    2. Search for the existing image you require and select it. Click Insert.

You can click the image to view and edit the scale, layout, and alternate text in the element toolbar.

Insert a New Image

You can insert a single new image into a topic.

  1. Click Insert and select Image.
  2. Click Upload and select the image to add.

    Note: You can choose to upload more than one image, but you can only insert one image at a time into a topic. If you upload several images, you might have to wait for them to appear in the image selection dialog.

  3. Click Open.
  4. When the upload completes, click on the progress message box.

You can click the image to view and edit the alternate text in the element toolbar. The new image you uploaded displays in the list of content as a Resource with you as the Responsible.

Tip: You can also drag an image from the files on your computer directly into the document.

Edit an Image

You can edit the properties of an image in a topic.

  1. Select the image in the topic.
  2. Optional: Enter the Alternate Text to display if the image cannot be displayed.

The image in the topic updates with the settings you selected.

Update an Image

You can update an image with a new version from the home page.

  1. From the home page, click and select Update.
  2. Select a new image file to use to replace the image resource and click Open.

The selected image replaces the resource and the modified date records the time and date of the edit.

Rename an Image

You can update the name an image from the home page.

  1. From the home page, click and select Rename.
  2. Enter a new name for the image resource and click Rename.

The selected image updates with the newly specified name and the modified date records the time and date of the edit.
