Comparing Sellable Items

You can compare two or more sellable items from the same version family or a different version family in the Compare app.

  1. Open one of the sellable items that you want to compare. For more information, see Opening Sellable Items.
  2. In the sellable items's identity card, from the context menu, select Compare.
The Compare app opens with this sellable item loaded in the left comparison pane.
  3. Optional: Pin the Compare app to the dashboard.
  4. Drag the other sellable item that you want to compare from the 3DSearch results or from any draggable region of the Portfolio Definition app and drop it into the right pane of the Compare app.
  5. Click Compare.

In the comparison results:

  • Two sellable items of the same branch are marked as Revisioned.
  • Two sellable items of different branches in the same revision family are marked as Similar.
  • Sellable items that do not belong to the same revision family, but have children sellable items that have statues of Revisioned or Similar, are marked as Different.
  • Duplicate sellable items created using the New Sellable Item command are unrelated. They are marked either as Different (if there are related children objects), or as Left-only or Right-only (if the child objects are not related).
  • Sellable items for which none of these cases apply are marked as Left only and Right only.
  • For all types of child items that are not sellable items, the only statuses computed are Revisioned, Similar, Left only, or Right only.
Note: If a sellable item contains another sellable item, which in turn has other sellable items and items, all these are expanded in the Compare app and presented for comparison. Only root and child sellable items are expanded in the Compare structure. Children of any other type of object are not expanded. The sellable items being compared are expanded to reach the leaf nodes of the structure. The Different status can be computed only for sellable items since only they are expanded in the comparison. Instance attributes are not compared.
