Configuring Object Storage Buckets

You can store binary data, such as images or videos, that do not fit into Semantic Graph Index Units, in the DFS Object Storage service of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. DFS is a storage built on top of a S3 (already used in the context of 3DSpace files storing).

Note: DFS Object Storage is also called DOS, or Blob storage, or even FCS whereas it is more an underlying layer than FCS.

A DFS Object Storage stores files as objects with their associated metadata, and unique identifiers enabling to access them on a network.

Add a New Object Storage Bucket

  1. From the home page, click Create Storage.
    The Add new storage dialog box opens to let you create a new storage or import an existing storage configuration (see Exporting and Importing a Storage Configuration).
  2. Click Create Storage.
  3. Enter a Storage name.

    It is possible to edit this name later.

  4. For Storage type, select Object Storage Bucket.
  5. Click Create.
    The Object Storage Bucket configuration menu opens.

Upload Files in the Bucket

You can upload binary files manually in the DFS Object Storage bucket, and specify prefixes to classify them.

Prefixes allow you to replace folders, as folders do not exist in a DFS Object Storage (it is not a real file system.)

  1. Go to the Upload tab.
  2. In File upload, click Select files to upload to open the files.
  3. In Common prefix, specify a prefix to prepend to the object names.

    This is convenient to store objects as if you had a folder hierarchy, and mimic a real file system classification.

  4. Optional: Click to edit an object file name.
  5. Click Upload.

Browse the Bucket Content

Once you have uploaded many files in the bucket, you can browse its content to find specific files.

  1. Go to the Browser tab.
    A table lists all the files that were uploaded. You can edit or delete a specific uploaded file from this view.
  2. Optional: Use the filter to search for a specific string and find all the files that match it.

Clear an Object Storage Bucket Content

You can clear all the documents uploaded on the Object Storage Bucket.

  1. In the General tab, go to the bottom of the Object Storage Bucket page.
  2. Click Clear.

Delete an Object Storage Bucket

  1. In the General tab, go to the bottom of the Object Storage Bucket page.
  2. Click Delete.
