Using 3DSwym Communities to Collaborate

Communities are social collaborative spaces where members can exchange information, post ideas, and ask questions. You can access communities using the 3DSwym app or other widget apps that are pinned to a dashboard. Community users can interact with content posted by other members and can ask for their opinions.

This page discusses:

Community Visibility

A community's visibility is set by the community's Administrator. The visibility level influences the way that you can interact with communities.

Community Visibility Description
Public Any member of a 3DEXPERIENCE platform can view and comment on any type of content in a public community.
Private Only the members of a private community can view its content. Private communities are identified by a lock before the name of the community.

You can ask to become a member of a private community using a simple form. The Owner of the community accepts or rejects your request.

Even if you are not yet a member, you can see the community's name and a short description.
Secret A secret community is not visible to anyone who is not a member. The Owner of the community invites members.

You can use secret communities to discuss confidential or restricted topics.

This is the default visibility when creating a community.
The platform Administrator can set a different level of community visibility for contractors or other external users to limit their access to a community.

Types of Content

You can create several types of content to engage community members in a productive collaborative experience. Members can comment on and like any type of content, except surveys.

Content Type Description
Post An item that can be enriched with a variety of media.

Can be commented on and liked by other community members, and can be converted to ideas.

Media Use to illustrate the experiences that you want to share with the community.

Can be created as full, high-semantic, stand-alone content in a community or added directly to posts, questions, ideas, wiki pages, and to the comments of other content.

Question A community member can ask a question to receive collaborative replies from any other community members.
Idea A starting point for creating and innovating by sharing the knowledge of community members.

Is more than a post—can be assessed and assigned different statuses to obtain community validation.

Survey Lets you to gather feedback from community members.
Wiki Lets community members share knowledge and easily keep the content updated.

You can create revisions of a wiki page to track any modifications, and later retrieve an older version of it.

Responsibilities

As a community member, you can be assigned different responsibilities within the community.

Responsibility Description
Owner Can create any type of content and also edit other members’ content for moderation purposes.

Can invite members and change their responsibilities.

Can activate different types of community content that are not activated by default and define the minimum responsibility required to edit these types.

Can customize the community by selecting a logo and a background.

Author Can create any type of content that has been enabled by the community Owner.

Can edit their own content.

Has all the permissions of a Contributor.

Contributor Can read any type of content, comment on posts, answer questions, create and answer surveys, and like any type of content.

May also be allowed to create some types of content depending on the edit rules defined by the community Owner.
