Installing the Hot Fixes

This section explains how to install the HFs.

  1. If you have not installed the 3DEXPERIENCE platform before, you can:
    • either install each server with the GA and the HF media, then duplicate each server for load balancing purposes
    • or install all the GA versions of the servers, duplicate each server for load balancing, then install the fix pack on all the servers, following the same order as the one used for the GA installation.

The first solution is the simpler of the two, but in any case, for subsequent fix pack installations, you will have to follow the second solution. So this is the solution described here.

  2. Before installing the HF, restart the database and other services.

A HF is installed in exactly the same manner as the GA software, using the usual modes (GUI, TUI, Silent).

If the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is already deployed, install the HFs in the same service order you used for the initial deployment.

  3. After launching the installation, depending on the media, you may first be greeted by a welcome dialog box. If this is the case, click Next to proceed.

Specify the installation folder in which you installed the GA version, then click Next to proceed.

The next dialog box specifies, for example, the following information:

Setup will update Desktop application to V6R2022x.HF1 in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Dassault Systemes\B424

indicating that you are updating to install a HF, for example V6R2019x.HF1 which is the hot fix identifier. It also lists the existing installations on your computer, enabling you to choose the installation on which the hot fix should be installed.

The HF media must always be installed in the same directory as the GA version. And hot fixes must belong to the same version, for example, a V6R2019x HF can be installed over a V6R2019x GA, but not over a V6R2018x GA.

  4. If required, and if the hot fix media proposes it, select from the list of new roles/products, those which you want to add to your installation.

    Then click Next to proceed.

  5. Specify passwords if prompted to do so.

When you installed the GA level, you may have been prompted to answer questions and provide input. Installing a hot fix is simpler than a GA installation, since you are no longer prompted to provide the same input because it is retrieved from the GA installation. Only dialog boxes with passwords are displayed with pre-filled values for other parameters, so you only need to provide the passwords.

  6. In the next dialog box, click Install> to install the hot fix files.

The setup program will inform you that the installation has ended. Click Close to exit.

A hot fix installation is always in "Delta" mode, and hot fixes are cumulative. This means that the HF media does not contain all files: it only contains the files that are different from the previous HF or from the GA of the same version.

Regarding the HF installation mechanism, the files installed by a previous HF version are not removed when installing a new HF version.

As HF media are cumulative, there is no need to install all HF versions until the needed HF version. For example, it is possible to install the GA, then HF3, then HF5 (without installing the intermediary HF1, HF2 and HF4).

Always use the same level of HF installers for web apps.
