Inserting Images and Notes

Diagrams can be customized for hardware architectures, software architectures, systems mappings, components, and interfaces by inserting images and creating notes.

Notes:
  • You can also insert these graphical elements into diagrams, which are created using older revisions of the app. However, you may experience unpredictable behavior when reopening such diagrams using an older revision of the app.
  • The size limit for an imported .svg image is 100 KB, whereas for other image formats the limit is 200 KB.

Insert an Image into a Diagram

You can import images into the background of a diagram.

  1. To insert an image (for example .svg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, or .gif) into the diagram, drag the image onto an empty area of the diagram or do the following:
    1. Right-click the background of the diagram and select Import Image .
    2. To select the images to be imported, do one of the following:
    • Drag the images into the Import Image dialog box.
    • Click Browse and select the images using the file explorer.
  2. Optional: To move the image, select and drag it to another location in the diagram.
  3. Optional: To resize the image, select and drag a corner of the image.
  4. Optional: From the context toolbar, you can execute the following commands:

    Command Description
    Delete Image Removes the image
    Duplicate Image Creates a copy of the image
    Send to Back Places the image at the back
    Bring to Front Places the image in the front

Insert an Image into a Diagram Component

You can create standardized technical symbols to represent components.

To insert an image (for example .svg, .jpeg, .png, .webp, or .gif) into a component, drag the image onto the component or do the following:
  1. Right-click the component and select Import Image .
  2. To select the image to be imported, do one of the following:
  • Drag an image into the Import Image dialog box.
  • Click Browse and select the image using the file explorer.
The image is embedded into the component. It can be moved and resized with the component.
Warning: If the component already contains an image, it is replaced with the newly inserted image.

Create and Manage a Note

A note is a rectangular area in which you can edit and format text. You can use it to display the name, date, author of the model, and other details.

  1. Right-click the background of the diagram and select Create Note .
    A note is created in the form of a rectangle.
  2. To edit the text in the note, double-click the note or right-click and select Edit .
  3. To move the note, select and drag it to another location in the diagram.
  4. To resize the note, select and drag one of its corners.
  5. From the context toolbar, you can execute the following commands:

    Command Description
    Delete Note Removes the note
    Duplicate Note Creates a copy of the note
    Send to Back Places the note at the back
    Bring to Front Places the note in the front
    Format Opens a dialog box, which enables you to edit the formatting options of the note
    Copy Graphical Properties Copies the graphical properties of the note
    Apply Graphical Properties Applies the copied graphical properties to the note
